I was wondering...since when I take my real film in to get developed, and I have the option of having the images put on a CD instead of in actual paper photos--would these digital images from a non-digital camera count as "digital photography?"

I wouldn't think so. My family has gotten a CD of film prints from Wal Mart once, and the quality was very poor. The resolution was 1 mp or less, and the pictures seemed very compressed. I'm not saying all developers do it that way, but Wal Mart did.

Any photograph submitted to a challenge must be taken with a digital camera and must follow these standards for submission:
File Format: JPEG (.jpg)
File Size: No larger than 150 kb.
Dimension: No dimension may be shorter than 160 pixels or longer than 640 pixels.
Exposure Date: Your photograph must be taken within the submission dates for the challenge unless otherwise specified in the 'extra rules' section of the challenge.

The rules say " must be taken with a digital camera "

Would be interesting though to see some scanned film shots :)

No. The images must be taken with a digital camera. This is because allowing scanned images allows photographers to easily circumvent the date limitations and editing rules, as there is no way to request and ensure we have received an unaltered original.

Can EXIF information not be edited? Is there *any* way of ensuring that an image is complying with the date restrictions?

There's really no way to account for those who are technically adept and bent on cheating; exif information can certainly be altered.
By making cheating difficult, you eliminate all but the most persistent cheaters. The way the admins have addressed this is, IMHO, an excellent compromise between strict verification and the honor system.
I was actually recommended for DQ this week; I'm glad that the questions were raised, and glad to respond to the inquiry. Even though I nearly missed the response deadline due to a business trip <=^o

Right, because

jhead -tsyyyy:mm:dd-hh:mm:ss

requires so much technical skill and does not "easily circumvent the date limitations and editing rules".

In fact, there is no way at all to ensure you receive an unaltered original. There is no compromise: the system is entirely honour-based.
