My Purple II shot is getting hammered by voters and I know it is not a sub-5 image.

Decisions, decisions...

What will that achieve?

Appears from the amount of views that voters love to hate it. :-(

We're together on this one, Leroy. I'm sitting right on 5, and it's worth wayyy more than that, especially when I know I've gotten at least one 10! Shall we dance, my dear? We can console each other :)

I suppose I could hold out til Saturday night when Free Study starts. That image should score quite well, I think ... hopefully. Maybe that will ease the pain.

I'll dance with ya sweety.

Artist works often are not fully appreciated at first. Your score only reflects the whim of the current week, not of eternity. Cream eventually rises to the top.

Leroy,

Remember that most of the well-known artists, couldn't give their work away when they were alive, it was only after their deaths was the value of their work seen. With that in mind, don't go do anything radical just for your purple shot. But know that it doesn't really matter what the score is if you like it.

Well, I think it cowardly and unfair.

Yeah, there are some shots that I wish didn't gain the scores they did. And just recently, I declined to enter cause I figured it'd be wailed on. So I passed ( I regret it but oh well too late ).

That said, I think self-DQ should only be for images that were actually in violation. This saving my average is extremely lame.

It not only affects you, but it affects everyone else who chose to stand by the score of their photo even if it profoundly affected their averages.

BRAVO SAJ!!! I am getting hammered as well in this challenge but I LOVE my image - so at this moment I don't give a rat's a** what anyone else thinks ; )

Leroy - I've been tempted myself to self DQ but didn't. One thing to think about is the voters. They gave their time to vote and a few even commented. If you self DQ you are essentially nullifying [is that a real word??] their work, because you don't like what they're giving you.

My suggestion is to turn of scores, take the hit on rollover, and keep entering so it fades fast from your recent challenges.

FWIW - I had two potential purple pictures to enter but at the last minute decided not to. I give you credit for being braver than I was!

well don't dq yourself...because we would hate to see you have too many dqs and not be able to continue entering...just rememebr that! :) chin up and rememebr some of my own scores i have told you about!

So what do you guys think the deal is? I know there can't be this many sub 5 entries. Do ya think the voters eyes are messed up from looking at abstract macros?

I feel ya, man.
I've suffered a lot of sub-fives lately, for reasons that are probably evident. Each submittal is like sending my child off to school and then learning that my expectations are much higher than I could hope for.
I wanna quit, usually after the first day, but then I realize that the couple of hunnert people that look & vote my images are not gonna break my enthusiasm for this hobby.
Sure, it hurts. I can't explain what some of my images are lacking (except the ones that DNMtC.) It would help to receive more constructive criticism, but I'm just as guilty as the majority for not taking the time to comment.
So, I still have fun, just not always.

.

You could try getting someone flag it as DNMC and when asked for validation, don't. LOL!

Actually you can't self-DQ a shot with rules violations (according to my reading of the rules). You can certainly notify someone, but it will get counted as an actual DQ.
