I have heard of dogs and policemen interupting your photo shoot, but have you had a tick ruin it?
I have been taking photos of sunsets and this weekend I went to a grassy place where lots of deer roam to get some pictures. I ended up with a tick on my shoe. I was also taking pictures of a sunset and a horse. I got home and was sitting on the couch and felt something crawling on my arm and guess what it was? A tick!!! Boy, did I freak out!! I jumped off the couch and ran to the kitchen to flick him in the garbage disposal and my whole family was running after me to see what it was and what it looked like. My 4 year old was crying and saying "get it off, mommy"! He is a goner but I am afraid to go back out there. I am sitting here right now with little tickles all over my arms. Eeeeuuwwww!! I hate those little bugs!

Yup. And you must be careful of lime disease! I hope it did not have a chance to bite you. I didn't realize they were out so early in the season! |

It didn't bite me. When my son was about 2 years old he had one stuck in is shoulder. I had never seen one before and had no idea how to get it out. Thank goodness for neighbors. He was tested and didn't have lime disease.

Ticks look evil, that's for sure! The tick that spreads lime disease is much tinier, and green, from what I understand. I remember taking pictures of my daughter when she was a baby. We had gone to a beautiful field with lots of grass and flowers and I had taken some great shots of her. When we came home, I set her on the floor near the couch and then freaked out when I saw a tick climbing up her face! Yow! I checker her out and found two more on her clothes walking around. I found a couple on me, too. I never went back to THAT field!

if you think that is bad, when I was about 12 years old, I once found a tick on my... ummm... you know.... it rhymes with tick.... damn I was traumatized! especially since it was at summer camp and I had to tell the councilor, "ummm I have a tick on my... " yikes!
he told me to put toothpaste on it and it would pull it's head out once it began to suffocate... what he failed to mention was that the toothpaste would burn!!!! oh man the horror!

I have been an ER RN for over 6 years now (in Colorado) and have not seen a Lyme disease case yet. But, one very interesting one I did see on 6 yr old female. Had (2) but one large one (been on her awhile) right at the base of her skull at her hairline. They brought her in because she was acting weird and couldn't stand up. Her coordination was totally off and she could not focus her eyes at all. This was from the amount of time the tick was on her and the female tick injects a type of "poison" into the hosts system, and after accumulating enough, shows these symptoms. Kinda scary to see, but about an hour after it was cut off her neck, she was doing quite a bit better.
Moral...always check you and every other warm blooded animal for ticks after an outdoor excursion. The only place this girl was in, was a city park.
But don't let it scare ya too much...use DEET (mainly) around cuffs and tuck em in (expecially pants)!

Ticks don't bother me too much, but I still remember living in Alabama, and I still remember getting chiggers! Those are pesky!
