I've had a Wacom Graphire 4x5 for a few years and really liked it. My wife needed a tablet for some of the courses she is taking so instead of sharing mine I got her a Wacom Intuos 6x8. Let me just say that I am amazed at the difference between them. The Intuos is a major step up from the Graphire.
Curious to find out if anyone else has made the switch up and noticed the same things. |

how is it different? I've been thinking on picking up a tablet but wasn't sure if I should spring for the more expensive version, seeing as I've never used one before.

the intous has double the resolution. But even among the intous family, i like my year old intous better than my co-workers 3 year old intous. Better design, better pen.
so it may also be a matter of a newer vs. old design. My really old graphire is a joke compared to my intous...or any new graphire.

| Anyone used the Wacom lcd monitor. I saw it on a show and it looked pretty cool. |

The Intuos has 1024 pressure levels, and the Graphire has 512. The Intuos also has the ability to sense the tilt of the pen, and it has optional accessories like special pens. It also has a touch strip and 4 keys, while the Graphire only has 2 keys.
I just got a Graphire4 4x5 and it is really awesome. It is not too small as some people say. I have no trouble with it, and it fits nicely on my desk.
The Cintiq is a totally different thing. Check it out here, and also the Payback Calculator if you wanna see if it is worth buying.

| the latest Intuos has not only pressure sensitivity (1024 levels) but cna also sense tilt, bearing and rotation. Imagine using a small paintbrush and turning it in your fingers to get the bristles to react in a certain way. With the proper program (Corel PainterX) and the latest Intuos tablet/pen you can do that. |

Yup, everyone has already said it... it has a few more buttons, two sliders, double the resolution, more pressure sensitivity, better pen, multiple pen tips for different feels, and can sense the tilt of the pen. Like I said, I have the Grapphire 4x5 and this Intuos 6x8 just wipes the floor with the other.
My wife is a traditional artist and is moving into graphic arts and loves using the Intuos with Painter IX.5. She can get the same feel and look out of it as she can with oil paints and a canvas.
I am going to quit before I start sounding like a salesman but if you are going to get one, save a few more bucks and get the Intuos. |
