I know its been talked about before, always with a little difference to the topic. Heres mine. I am shooting in jepg then using pse4.0 to edit. Up till now I have been saving all files with, / save as / a copy / jpeg. Then export to, / my pictures / file, landscape, people, ext. Then burn to disk. ( filed the same way as my pictures files.) the prob is that I want to save the original and the final edit, and I am only getting the final. I want both on disk and just the final in my hard drive, what is the best way to do this so that I can clean out photoshop? How do you do it? I am still trying to learn about tiff and psd, what they do, how they work, will they do what I am wanting? And file names do you use the ones that photoshop applies to the images or do you apply your own and how? I have been using my own( L 01a and L 01b ) the prob here is that I have to seperate the 2 photos then go and rename them before exporting them. Am I just doing things the hard way?

Thanks
Woody

If you're doing the rename one at a time then I would say you're doing it the hard way. PS has a batch rename process that would make thinks much easier.

If you're using a PC, Irfanview has a simple batch rename function as well.

However, you should be saving the unedited original and the edited .PSD as separate files; whether you save further composite iterations is a matter of style and storage space. I typically have (for edited pictures):

-original
-Photoshop file
-flattened TIFF
-flattened JPEG (from the TIFF, if I'm making a print)
-resized TIFF (if a DPC entry)
-resized JPEG (entry)

plus assorted other versions for different print sizes, adding a border, etc. I find storage space less expensive than doing something over ...

Thanks for the imfo, I will learn all this stuff, may take 3 to 4 years. just to make shur I have it? When my photos are uploaded to photoshop from the camera, I can sort them out and place them in collections / batch rename / edit / save as copy. Then pull the file from Adobe photos files and burn to DVD and or CD. Is this correct or am I still missing something? This way should leave me with a dvd copy and a file on my hard drive Of both the original and the edited with easy to locate titles. Now I just need to clean up the old files before this system will work and stop saving in jpeg. Thanks again, hope this is right.
