The local newspaper is having a pet contest with the top 100 being published in a spectial section on 9/26/2006.

If you can please take a spare moment, I would appreciate any votes you might give to my dog Annie.

Annie at The O.C. Register

Annie is very special to me. She's an Austrailian shepard with a huge heart and lots of will to overcome life's challenges. Annie has been epileptic all of her life from about 12 weeks old to present. She is now approaching 9 years old. She has to take phenobarb and potassium bromide twice daily to control seizures. Annie now is struggling thru perhaps her last of life's battles. It is likely she also has a brain tumor. Two months ago we didn't think she would be with us today. She had a series of about 9 seizures over 48 hours and wasn't able to walk for about 4 days. Things looked grim, but she wasn't willing to give up the fight and I am ever grateful she is still here with me today.

I salute my companion and one of the best friends of my life. Again if you can please take a minute to stop at the url above and cast a vote.

thanks,
garry

Just went and voted. Real nice photo, and a gorgeous doggie. Your story about her really touched my heart too. She is so lucky to have you.

Very expressive photo, with really nice lighting and DOF control. If I were framing it I think I'd crop the sides to a square -- there should still be enough BG to frame her face, and I don't think the extra adds that much ... she looks like a happy dog -- sorry to hear she's having such a hard time : (

Gave her a 10 for being such a fighter and loyal companion. Best wishes to you both. :)

Thanks to all of those that voted, or commented. Have to wait until Tuesday to see if she is one of the lucky 100 that make it into the newspaper. 3,690 dog photos were entered! She has a lot of competition, so many beautiful dogs.

Thanks again to those who voted and commented. Annie appeared in today's edition of the Orange County Register, making the top 100 cut out of 3,690 dogs.

The 100 dogs can be seen at Winners Whoever did the crops wasn't very talented. If you view the thumbnails you will want to click on the image to see the actual submission.

Feeling great and enjoying the day with one of my best friends =)

thanks,
garry

Yesterday I gave a last farewell to my best friend. She had more than 15 seizures over 3 days with no hope of improving. You might think that nine years of this might have prepared me for this moment in time; but it didn't. My heart has been ripped open and a major element of my life has been swept away from me. She has moved onward from this world unto another. I miss Annie immensely, and all the love in my heart is testament to what a great friend and companion she was for me. Although gone from this world, never a day will pass that she will not be remembered.

Nothing can prepare you. I'm so sorry. It's so much harder than anyone can imagine unless they have lost a pet themselves.
