I decided not to enter my abstract shot. It certainly make viewers wonder what it is, but I guess compostionally it is questionable. I had a great title (quotation for it, too.) Oh, well, too late to enter it now (it being on my home computer).

This was a hard one to me.

There would be a ton of oranges and flowers, would just drown in the other images if I did that.

Then the image must not be easy to reckognize - at first - must mean it can not be so hard that you cannot see it at all, or what?

I did have the greatest idea, funny, abstract and all that, and I even made some really great shots of it. BUT, it was too easy to see what it was, especially from the thumbnail. "So close that it cannot easily be reckognized ..." Well, it wasn't really that close, darn!

Did another one, similar but a lot closer, hope it does not go DNMC too much, but again, especially the thumbnail gives it away!

Crossing fingers, and will post outtakes afterwards ...

Kinda reminiscent of my textures entry. At the time my camera was in the shop (again) so I used my cell phone. This entry was my LDC monitor of which I create two lines on a background. Thought it was pretty neat for a cell phone shot.

This is what I was going to enter for the new Abstract Macro

For whatever reason I just could not get the clarity I desired for my entry. So at the last minute I chose not to submit it. It's actually a fairly sharp image. But I think the material just led to an undistinguised feel.

Bummer...as I really wanted to enter this challenge. But I figured that the above entry would just bomb so I chose to withdraw and count my losses. (Namely 2 hours wasted with no entry...blah!)

Too bad you didn't. Then we could have voted on it and even provided feedback via comments during voting. As is, it's a "taboo" outtake...

edit to remove image in quote.

If he's got no entry he's got no outtake...

I think it would have scored well. It's abstract, it's a macro, and you can't tell what it is at a glance. Right there you outperformed 50% of the other entries.

Hey guys, just a reminder.

Please try to keep showing outtakes until after the challenge. It is much appreciated if you do not include outtakes in threads until after voting is over (to give the entries a fair chance of getting commented on, and to avoid undue influence on voting ideas).

I didn't enter and all the entries had already been submitted. But I understand from the comment viewpoint. So I won't in the future.

I've just kind of lost confidence in my shooting as of late. I was cameraless for so long and seems like I just cannot get any shots to really come out as I like. And where as my goal was to keep most of my entries in the top 25% this year, I am averaging closer to the bottom 10%.

I was just sure if I entered the entry all I'd get was "out of focus" which it wasn't. Or comments on the darker blotches (which were part of the subject). So I guess I just self-discouraged myself.

I just don't feel like I've been able to make a good entry in a long while. So I just lost confidence in submitting this one. *shrug*

Yeah, though it is as subjective a process as everything else. But yes if someone submits a macro of a coffee bean, centered on a white background, where it is obvious to anyone with functional retinas that it is in fact a coffee bean and no attempt at all has been made to do anything but show the entire bean for what it is - they just missed half the point of the challenge.

Wondered how long that would take. ;^) Only 33 hours.

Repeat a challenge theme - repeat the same rule debates.

No problem. Full House is a good hand to play wherever you can! Although 6.6000 would be a little nicer to have. :D
