Wait, is this a lens thread, or a handgun thread? I forgot.

If I wanted to make a political statement about guns I would have stated such.

If that was indeed the case, then I apologize to you. It was just with Deapee having stated it was a high capacity magazine unit holding 16 rounds. It seemed more so that your comment was expressing "why would he need more rounds than the standard magazine held".

And I am willing to apologize to you if that was indeed the case.

Others were less so, and unquestionable in nature. IMHO.

Thanks. I honesty didn't try and make any statement about guns. If anything I took a jab at deapee for needing better or more bullets to get the job done. :P

I apologize for misinterpreting your query. Such incidents are one hazard when communication is conducted via text alone.

The thing that holds ammunition and goes into a pistol such as the XD is a magazine NOT a clip.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

You're about 6 hours late for your correction, being that I corrected myself...but nice try.

No try, success as it was for me not you. As well you are not the only one making the mistake. Late or not.

Think nothing of it. I probably should have realize it could have been misinterpreted.

The problem is that when someone posted a reply which was not germane to your discussion (snide or not), you used the Post Reply button rather than the Report Post -- at which point you completely ignore the inappropriate remark.

As soon as you reply you allow the interlopers to define the discussion. If you were to have just continued your discussion without reference to those "political" posts your thread would probably still be active.

FWIW, I took one quick peek at it early on, saw that it was about "equipment specs" and not a "discussion of guns," and stayed out of it after that, precisely because my comments could only have been about the non-technical aspects.

cartridge clip

n : a metal frame or container holding cartridges; can be inserted into an automatic gun [syn: cartridge holder, clip, magazine
==========
Seems to me that the magazine is a permanent component of a gun, while the clip refers to the removable part. A firearm can have a magazine without a clip, but to use a clip the gun must be equipped with a compatible magazine, or at worst, the two words are interchangable for all practical purposes.

General, technically, it's semantics. Generally, the piece that holds the ammo and encloses the ammo and is inserted into the gun is a magazine. The piece that holds the ammo and leaves the ammo exposed is a clip. But you're right, some manufacturers will call a magazine a clip. In my particular case, it's a magazine, however.

JejejeĆ¢„Ā¢ That's an oxymoron, Deapee. "Technically", it's not semantics, it's a rational distinction. That is to say, the technically-minded gun person WILL know the difference, as indeed you do. But for the average person, "clip" and "magazine" are synonymous, so for the non-technical it's just semantics :-)

(Had to stick that in there)
