feedback required for a club competition entry

Hi all,

I joined a photographic society and I will be entering the next club competition they have. Deadline Oct 19th. The topic is 'by the waters edge' - the main focus must be the interaction of the land and water.

The photo can be taken at any time, as long as it has not been entered into a club competition before.

At the same time you can also enter a 'free study', so in affect there are two competitions at once.

Here are the two entries I want to submit. Can you all please give me as much feedback as you can so I have a chance to improve before submission.

The water's edge one has potential. A little more detail in the rocks I think would give it some punch.

I agree with the comments that

annasense left on both of your images. I would suggest you take a look at the B&W tutorial by fotomann foreverand try a couple of different PP methods to see how many moods you can create for the water image. That image has a lot going for it and it would be interesting to see what different contrasting does for the mood.
