I just woke up from a very bizarre dream...trying to forget it so thought I would share some exciting news!

This weekend is our local Sugarcane Festival. It is our equivalent of a County Fair with exhibits in Agriculture, Sugar Cookery, Horticulture, Art and of course...Photography! Of course we have the amusement rides and games, queens, parades and fireworks to make it all nice and festive. Everyone in town dresses up in some sort of farming wear. Denim and red bandannas are the required dress code!

There were well over 200 entries spread out across these categories: Nature, Animals, Floral, People, Scenic, Computer Enhanced, Still Life, Black and White. You are permitted up to 5 entries with a maximum of two per category to be judged. I entered two florals, two nature and one computer enhanced. I won a first in floral, 2nd and Honorable Mention in Nature. This is only my second time entering. Two years ago, I won Sweepstates (above first place) in People and an Honorable Mention, but I am failing to remember what photo that was..uggh. Last year, the events were cancelled due to Hurricane Rita. :-(

Floral and Nature both reach 50 entries per category.

Here are this years placements:

1st Floral -
2nd Nature -
Honorable Mention -

Many Thanks! I have finally come to terms with that fact that those DPC scores in fact do not measure my abilities. I do miss participating in challenges! I just don't have time to go out and just shoot as much as I would like...low on time and energy! I am hoping to get something good at least for Free Study this month. I have not been shooting as much as usual (although, the camera counter doesn't seem to report that to be true...just made over 10,000 frames :-) )

I took some shots of the 1st place winner in Nature that I must share with you. I keep asking myself what on earth were they thinking..the judges that is! I can't complain though. I did end up with two of my ribbons in that one category. I am quite proud!

Not sure that I will ever be as proud as I was for my first time entry two years ago that won Sweepstakes in People last year...for different reasons though. Any picture of my child is tied directly to my heart. I won a second ribbon (Honorable Mention) that year as well, but you know, I don't remember what picture or category. That's terrible!
