Great timing and wonderful capture!
The architecture is beautiful and the subjects are quite attractive and dressed to match the color theme of photo. Are you sure this isn't setup?;) Personally, I like the placement of the subjects in the frame; because the steps create a sort of leading line, and they eliminate any distracting BG element that might take focus away from the couple.
As an architectural shot, I think the crop works well. However, in the romantic context I think there might be a little too much architecture in relation to the subjects. I agree with the comment that the tones are a bit on the cool side.
If I may be so bold as to suggest an alternative composition...here is what I came up with. I also played with the white balance, did a little warming of the colors and lightened up the subjects with levels, layers and the erase tools. 
The only other improvement that I can think of might be to have the subjects in a little sharper focus. However, I realize this is not always impossible in such candid shots.
Overall, I think it's a very nice image and one you should be proud of.

Hi Roxanne,
Thank you so much for the comments. Your not the only person to say 'are you sure this wasn't set up!?'. This was taken late on a saturday afternoon, I was out on a photography day with  Ecce Signum and all afternoon he had been saying there was no way I would get a picture in the foyer without any people in it as the place was really busy.
So whilst he was dashing about with his camera and tripod I spotted this couple and waited till there was no one else around, just as I went to click the shutter they kissed. I'd say I was lucky!! No sooner had I hit the shutter than someone walked into the frame.
I agree I just cant get the tones in the picture quite right and I really appreciate you having a go at the picture, I think your edit works nicely too :o)
