Well it's 3 am, almost 24 hours after major shoulder surgery. All went well but after waking up in pain and having to pop another couple happy pills, I'm waiting for them to take effect so I can fall asleep again.I guess the worst part of this one was trying to wake up from the general. A real scary fight for life itself it felt like. My lips are twice as big as they should be from swelling. I guess they had to stick a breathing tube down my throat and then taped my mouth shut tightly around it during the surgery so no air could leak, the marvel of breathing machines.
So now here I sit, the only safe place ...DPC ;). My shoulder wrapped and bundled with two big tubes hanging out of the wrapping. KInda amazing. They gave me an ice chest that I fill with water and ice. It has a pump and the hoses pumps ice water into the shoulder bandages to cool things down to aid in the recovery.
Well I've corrected almost every other word for spelling, I think it makes sense but at this point it really doesn't matter ... sooooo I guess the hapy pills must be working agin, time for some more sleep. Gudnigh ya'll ;) |

Well one more and then off I go.
Nothing spectacular, just joints going bad. A few years ago I had a couple surgeries on my right shoulder and now my left will be fixed I hope. They have had to go in and cut off an a little more than an inch of my collar bone where it joins into my shoulder. So know the collar bone is short and doesn't attach to the shoulder anymore. They also had to remove some bone spurs and debre in and around the joints that was limiting movement and causing lots of continous pain. It takes some strength away but I'de rather have that and stop the pain. It was done a WIlford Hall USAF hospital by a friend of mine who is the chief of orthapeadic surgery. He's a full Colonel and has spent time in Iraq helpng soldiers and civilians that have been wounded. A very capable doctor so I'm confident all will end up ok in a few weeks. I guess I'm just in line for this stuff, so far similar surgeries on my other shoulder, my ankle and one of my knees. All have been very successful and everything normal. Modern medicine is great. |

Sorry you went through that. Something similar happened to me after i had my gallbladder removed. It was the scariest thing ever. I was FREAKING out and the nurse kept telling me "Calm down. Just let the machine breath for you." but it's not human nature to not breath at your own pace especially since i was scared and my body wanted to breath real fast but the machine was going so slow that most of my breaths didnt give me any air. sooo friggen scary. I was sure I was going to die. Hope your shoulder gets better quickly! |

Don, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Don't overdo it, and get rest when you can. I had a breathing tube put in once for a surgery and that's pretty scary by itself when they're putting it in, let alone everything else that's going on. Take care. |

Time for another dose happy. It looks like very 4-5 hours just like the Doc said. I figure it'll be one camera, one lense and a monopod for a while. Who knows maybe even next week, the most bothersome is the fat lip still ;( |

So we'll look for another posting in about 4-5 hours then. :-)
Question for you - your location for the inverted image challenge - where is that? Is it safe for a lone, small female to go shoot there during the day on a weekend? |

Sorry to hear about the shoulder Don. I hope it heals quickly. Take it easy and follow the doctor's orders. Just remember, the good thing about pain is that it lets you know you're not dead yet. :D
Good luck!

Back again, had a big frown a few minutes ago, now so very happy again. One kills the pain, two makes me smile ... three well party time!! I just looked through the Far Side Winners and that helped for a little laugh.
Thanks ya'll maybe back to one handed shutter shooting next week ;) |

Oh ya I remember now. Ok it's about 1/2 west of the stockyards near downtown. The closest cross streets are S Laredo st and S Brazos St.If you can find where Saltillo St ends into S Brazos St thats where it is. The lat /lon is N29.41000 W098.51515. It kinda scary like a big empty dark building. I've only ran into people there twice and they were fine to be around. You can park ouside by the railroad tracks and go through the fence or I usually drive in by the ice business off S Laredo and park right next to it. Take a tripod for some good inside long exposure pics. I've always been there alone too. Take a flashlight and you can really explore. I think it would be a great place to have a model for pics. When ya planning on going? If my directions don't make sense let me know and I'll try to put a map together. I can see all those neat bright colors right now ;) |

I can probably Google it based on your directions. Not sure when I'm gonna go. I'd like to go this weekend, because I'm out of town next weekend, but it depends on how much I can get done getting ready for movers to come in here. Still sorting stuff. Actually, haven't done much since last weekend since I spend all my time doing the self-portrait challenge, but that's entirely beside the point... :-)
Have fun with the pain meds, but start workin' out that shoulder so you can shoot!
