I started the whole photography gig back in december of 2005, and with the advice of John, Strangeghost, I quickly signed up for DPC. Sense then I have learned so much more about photography, I still have so much to learn, but I think that without DPC, I wouldnt be where I am. I have never really done to well on dpc, but outside of dpc, I'm doing great. I have started a small buisness in band promo and hope continue it. I think that both elsapo and joey lawrence, have played a huge rule in inspiring me to keep going. Mostly becasue they are my age, and crazy good at what they do. So thanks dpc, thanks dpc'ers

When I first started, I didn't even know what aperature or ISO were, now i feel like I have got a good grip on it.

well I hope to keep learning from DPC, and feel free to post your thoughts on how dpc has helped you as well.

DPC has helped me learn how to count backwards--as in my average vote received 5.9, 5.7, 5.5, ... :-)

Seriously, you can never stop learning. I don't care who a photographer is, s/he can always learn something new. And what a better way then through DPC.

Am I the only one who likes the first example photo there better? :p

DPC really is a great place, I've technically been registered for 3 years but in the first 6 months I only entered 2 challenges and mostly just used the forums, then I left for a year and a half until I got my DSLR last year, and then like 80% of the money I earned since then went to photography. I learned a hell of a lot about processing here, and how to select subjects and lighting conditions. Not to mention all the technical details that come in handy just about all the time I shoot. I still don't know crap about portraits, maybe someday...

First off great shots man, really really nice. DPC has done wonders for me. taught me technicals as well as how to be artistic, not just take snapshots.and the 30 day self portrait stuff has pushed me waaaay outside of my comfort zone.

edit ti add the focus on your newer photo is definately better. they both have great comp and personality though.

DPC helped on every level, i started phtography a little less than a year ago, but learned quite a bit from DPC, whereas i had to push my imagination sometimes to come up for ideas for challenges, and i learned a lot about post processing.

1.Made me realize my country was actually beautiful..
2.Made me realize my camera worked..sometimes..
3.Made me Think 0_o
4.Made me realize Post Processing can be fun/murderous.. or that it exists beyond giving people stuff they didn't have.

Who are the bands? as a fellow Wisconsinite I am curious..

I have learned a few things the people at DPC. Learning about lighting is my main goal and has been since I signed up here. But I have also learned a bit about framing shots, picking subjects, different styles of photography, I have tried alot of things I would have never given a second thought if I hadn't been inspired by photos seen here.

The other thing I learned is that everyone has a different view. Some of you like straight photos some of you like over processed photos.

I have been trying to find the happy medium.

One more thing DPC has taught me is how to spend money. Since I signed up to this site I have spent a fortune on equipment.

Before DPC I had no idea how sharp something could be. I have seen sharpness here that could puncture a planet, mince a meteor, bissect a brontosaurus, lance aluminum and lobotomize a log cabin... and still be able to slice a tomato!

it got me back into photography, learned so much from the DPC's get togethers, it has got me selling prints now, also got a website now and just did my first wedding shoot, also now using my photography for work.... so its being here has been good to me and I have learned so much

Sounds like challenge winners should receive a set of Ginzu knives.

I have learned many things but I think first and foremost how good photographs could be. I would have never pushed myself as hard to get better without it. I think the new shot is way better. I like the muted colors and the focus and DOF is far better.

The first band is a band called Iscariot(ID), they are a smaller metal band on 567 records, the second band is called Four Letter Lie(MN), they are on victory records

I have learned how to take a picture right the first time, and edit the crap out of it until you can't tell that it was a picture at all. :P

Seriously, almost everything I have learned in photography has been here. If I ever see my high school photo teacher again, I'm going to give her a piece of my mind.

Wow, where do I begin?
The first thing I learned is BACKGROUND, BACKGROUND, BACKGROUND!
After that, I learned a LOT about editing, the rule of thirds and most importantly that simplicity is usually the best way to go.
I also learned how to comment on other people's photos and that I need a better camera! LOL

Oooooo yes, dpc is just soooooo wonderful!

What has dpc done for me? Hmmmâ€Â¦ let me thinkâ€Â¦

I used to go do things on weekends, like fishing and boating with our friends, playing tennis, or even working on the house. Lots of different things. Now, I spend my time sitting on the computer DPC’ing, and lots of time just sitting, staring off into space while I try to think up ideas for challenge photos. Occasionally I make a photo.

I used to have money. Never a whole lot of it, but enough. Now I have camera gear.

To make a long story shortâ€Â¦

I used to have a life. Now I have dpc.

Thank you sooooo much DPC!
