Well said. I've also just began entering challenges here again after a bit of a hiatus. After numerous unsatisfying results on photos I thought were well crafted, I realized that you really can't take voting personally (or seriously, for the most part) and you're exactly right—you most likely won't create a phenominal image when created for the masses. This site is a perfect study of the saying "you can't please all the people all the time" not only because of the narrow-minded and boundry-plagued critcism, but also because of the wide varity of subjective photographic preferences, techniques, genres and styles. Of course, when the people judging are vying for the same digital blue ribbon, scores are bound to lean toward the dredded 1's in effort to keep 6's in winning posisiton. So let's just have fun and learn instead—Make the images to communicate the stories you see. There is no other "you" in this world and no one will ever capture the same story with your perspective. Understanding that is worth more than a 10 to me. Thanks for you words of wisdom!

seems to me for this Leading Lines challenge there are a lot of voters and/or entrants who can't see leading lines unless it's a slap-you-in-the-face, perfectly-straight, hard-edged line (as in a road, railroad track or building). what too many aren't getting is that leading lines can be found almost everywhere you point your eyes (or camera). i just wish everyone was open-minded enough to see it.
i'll take my mediocre score (of a photo i'm very happy with) and get off my soap box now, thanks. LOL |

Very well said and right on, a lot of voters only see an image in thier way, and take no interest in the photographers perspective,and if it dose'nt suit them tough, oopps there goes another 3' 2' 1'. |
