There have been many postings regarding build of lenses and bodies many people citing one body over another because of solid body as opposed to lighter plastic ones.
But what about weather resistant lenses ?
With the recent posting about the new Pentax K10 - the one aspect that had me personally excited is the aspect of weather resistance. I think there is some mention about some of their lenses being weather resistant as well (I may be wrong on this).
I assume there must be a lot of pros out there who require this of their cameras and lenses.
Are the L lenses weather resistant ? Or the Nikon? Do the third party makers make any weather resistant lenses ?
I've never seen this mentioned with any posting. Anyone in the know ?

I don't know about the Nikon lenses, but most of the Canon L lenses are weather resistant. I don't think the 70-200mm f/4L or the f/2.8L (non-IS version) has weather sealing, someone correct me if I'm wrong on that. I also don't think any of the small prime L lenses have it either. (50mm f/1.2L, etc). But again, someone correct me if I'm wrong on any of that.

Also, the 100-400 is not weather-sealed and I beleive that the 35-350 isn't, either, whereas I seem to remember reading that the new 50mm f/1.2 is. Let's not forget that the weather-sealed lens is not that much of an advantage without a weather -sealed camera, too.

Theres talk in the Pentax section of the dpreview forum that the first two weather sealed lenses for the k10d will be a 16-50 f2.8 and a 50-135 f2.8. Both are confirmed to be released sometime early next year. I cant wait!

What about any of the independant makers - Tamron, Sigma etc ?

Most of the Olympus line of Zuiko lenses are weather sealed with the exception of their kit lenses (14-45 and 40-150), 35mm macro and long zoom 18-180, to go along with their all weather sealed E-1 body. A weather sealed body without weather sealed lenses will not protect the insides of your camera and just the act of zoooming in and out on a conventional non-weather sealed lens probably sucks in moisture, dust and other particulates into the camera. That's probably a big reason why there is so much accumulation of dust on sensors despite the best efforts of photographers to protect their cameras during lens changes.
