Yes, i killed it. I was hung over on Dartmoor and had the camera on a tripod on a wall. Somehow it lost its balance and went into a river. It still has power but at the moment it keeps firing when turned off and the flash keeps opening. I think it's past repair but i've stuck it in the airing cupboard for now just in case it comes back to life. The memory card is ok, i just hope i got something for this weekends challenges so it didn't die in vien.

Oh well, looks like i know where my student loan is going this term. Time to start planning the upgrade.

I would try putting it in the oven at 130 degrees for a while... who knows... it might come back

That sucks. Try to dry it out, it might still work.

If the camera went into fresh water, it's very likely it will be useable when thouroughly dried out. Open the battery door, the CF card flap, and take the lens out and air it out in a dry place. You can put it in a (very) large baggie with silica gel packets also, but be sure to swap these as they get saturated. It's worth waiting on. I have recovered a soaked camera this way myself.

I'll try, i gave it a second rinse with clean water now it's drying. I'm worried that it hit the rocks too hard and it could have other issues. The lens (my 18-55mm) is definatly no good now.

Thanks James

Eeek! First thing I would have done : puked.

There is a decent chance that it will work again after it is completely dry though. Don't rush it.

I've had similar things happen to other electronics. Even a few that got dunked in salt water. I've had excellent luck with a thorough cleaning in distilled water followed by a good drying.

I wouldn't put it under heat or anything, just let it air dry for a week or so.

hope you revive it.

It's getting there, it's been in with the emertion heater all night and now it half works. i'll give it a few more days.

One thing to remember when you get something like this wet is not to turn it on until it's absolutely dry. Quite a few people end up making things worse by trying to use it just after the event.

Hope yours is ok when it dries out.

Not good, but let it dry a few more days, before you try it again. When electronics are wet even inserting the battery can be a bad thing.

You tried starting it before drying it?? That's something.

At least now you know electronic doesn't work with water. But you learned it the hard way, that sucks.
