If the 70-200 doesn't come with the tripod collar I would get one as putting that joystick head on it's side for vertical shots puts everything way off balance. |

I love the joystick, it's sturdy enough to handle either the 70-200 and 100-400 very well. I have to place the trigger to the side because of the battery grip, but really it's as comfortable as placing it to the front.
And of course, the lens is a treasure =)
I would like to add a wide angle lens, not sure of which I would choose though.
Also I gave consideration to buying the canon 2x extender but the salesperson I was speaking with thought I would be very disappointed. Anyone here using the 2x and satisfied with the results?

To use the 2X TC effectively you need good fast primes...although it does produce acceptable results with the 70-200 f/2.8 |

Samys is great when they have these sales. Congrats on the new goods, you'll love that lens! I got my 20D almost 2 years ago at Samys not knowing the sale was going on and saved a bit. Have you been to the main Samys on Fairfax? Kind of nuts being so busy, but very nice! I usually shop at the Pasadena store though which is closer to me. |

I do like Samy's but what has occured in the past is that I'll go and get a great deal; then tell someone else about it and when they try to get the same deal the salesperson will tell them they can't do it. This has happened to me three times.
I can't complain though. They have given me great prices and terrific service. I'm not an easy customer I ask a lot of questions before the sale so that I'm not a problem customer after the sale. They've never failed yet to be able to answer a question.
I haven't been to any Samy's other than the one in Santa Ana near South Coast Plaza. Do they have like a super store with monthly clearance sales? |

Well, I ain't Marc but I couldn't live without mine. It's one of the nicest lenses I've ever had, and I just love the way it lets me see.

Ya, some of the salesmen are evil and just out to make a buck, but some are really helpful and don't mark-up much more than the web price. Once you find a good one, get their card and go back to only them.
The main store is up here in LA by Hollywierd, is 4 stories high, and is a droolfest. The good stuff is on the 4th floor, the pro department. This is the only picture I could find of it:
Not worth driving all the way up here for, but if you're ever in the area it's worth a look. They even have valet parking!
They don't really have clearance sales that I saw (I just ran in for a charger for my Turbo battery), but they have some closeouts on their website. There's also a used department a half block away if you like used equipment, but I try to stay clear of that stuff.
BTW, good choice on the grip head, I have it and love it. Just make sure to mount the 70-200 bad boy on the rotating collar and rotate from there. It gets a little heavy for the grip if you use the grip to turn to portrait. You can increase the pressure too which helps with that lens on by rotating the little wheel on the grip. |

Samy's has been around for a LONG time; I remember driving to LA from San Diego to buy my SinarP 4x5 camera back in the mid 70's, facripesake...

Yesterday, at Samy's in Orange County, I bought a Pentax K100D kit, and supplemented it with a Tamron 75-300 lens (x1.5 when on the Pentax). It's far from high-end for sure, but my budget, coupled with the fact that Samy's Camera is having a no-sales tax promotion and a ton of freebies thrown in, dictated the deal.
Some of these freebies that Samy's included were very basic quality items such as a tripod, camera bag, 1Gb SD card, Samy's windbreaker jacket, a refurbished Epson Photo printer, 300 free prints, etc. All this for free, so I can't complain. I gave the 1Gb SD card to my daughter, which she has been wanting for a while. So it all worked out.
Up to this point, all the photos I've entered into the challenges, as well as the photos in my personal portfolio, so far have been from the Powershot, but I hope to add Pentax shots soon.
Now, let's see...Leading Lines or Electricity? Hmm...

Sorry, didn't see this last night. Yes, like Bear said, it's a very nice lens. Don't let the price for an EF-S lens fool you. In my opinion, it is quite comparable to an "L" lens in sharpness, although not as fast of a lens aperture-wise... but for landscapes you're usually not shooting wide open anyways. It takes some getting used to if you're not familiar with ultra-wide angles. There's some distortion especially at 10mm, but that's a given at this wide. Don't forget the funky-looking hood which doesn't come with it, and maybe an ultra-thin polarizer. |

You can always get a 488rc2 or something along those lines and switch back and forth depenging on what you're shooting.
That 488rc2 will handle anything and everything you can afford heh...believe me, I've mounted some heavy stuff to it.

I added the EF-S 10-22 this weekend. I also bought the lens hood and a UV filter but the saleperson warned me about using a polarizer with a wide angle lens. Is it true that a circular polarizer will degrade the image significantly below 18-20mm? |
