This subject conjures up a chuckle. I recently watched a news clip regarding chinese symbols and the mistakes made when applying them as tattoos. It appears that many of the tattoos are nowhere near their implied meaning and therefore result in some pretty idiotic permanent reminders of misplaced trust and false information. According to the clip, the intricate nature of the symbols is such that the slightest misspelling can result in embarrasing results. That being said, I'd check several sources before I'd take one at face value and make a permanent blunder. I'm not saying your inquiry is regarding a tattoo, but if it is, beware.

Tatto fiasco
