I want to make these two pictures:

More uniform in terms of head size to this one:

Can I do that, or do I have to reshoot?

You can resize them down, but then you'll have to clone in some BG on the top and sides to print the same size.

... or maybe crop the bottom photo.

What boggles my brains (since my son is a senior) is they say the only reason they care is because they want to enter this year's year book into competition. They compete to see who has the best year book? Shouldn't the standard be if the students and parents are happy with the end result?

Just wondering did you clone out the background? Maybe you can select the person then do a free transform to change the size of them.

What is you desired end result? Are you making them all into one photo?

If it was me, I'd find the photo with the largest head size, use that one as the template, and crop the rest to match. Making the larger ones smaller would be the most work since it involves adding in background in a way that works...and you would still not have the lower part of the person (unless you wanted to try to clone something in for each - a huge task, imo)

btw, I think the larger head looks better anyway.

If that is the case, it is much easier to do the cropping in the layout program (Quark for example) than in Photoshop.

The head size can't be more than 1.25 inches, and the top two are too big. The bottom one is exactly right.

A 1.25 inch head... how big is the photo square?

the photo is 2.375 wide and 2.875 high.

It can be done.. but will require some cloning. You will have to clone Some top and sides onto the background and judging from the bottom photo you will have to clone some shoulders and chest as well as hair.

This is what I mean .

How'd you do that? keep in mind I'm fairly PS inept.

If they're entering a competition I'd be more worried about the cut and paste job of the girls onto that background. It looks really chunky in places.

is there just the two images, or are there a whole yearbook full of students that need to match each other's head sizes?

If it's just the two, send them to me and I'll just do it - I'll send you the PS files so you can see what I did.

If it's more, send me the two, I'll do it, we'll chat, you'll understand, and you're on your own for the whole book.

I've done projects like this - with like 200 images or more to match - it only takes a couple of hours once you are in the groove.

indeed, it does look a bit chunky. Are they all wearing the same digital black top?

The top is not digital, it's a black drape that I ordered off the internet. Yes, all the girls wear them, and all the boys have on tuxedos.
