Found this little Article, seemed interesting. I don't really know much about the music industry, but it sounds like a similar idea. Was wondering what anybody else might thing.

I work with a guy who buys stock music, so it's fairly lucrative.

This is not much like stock -- it is more like DPC Prints, where the independent artist is provided with a forum/gallery to sell directly to the end-user. This is not new -- MP3.com ran such a service, and I believe cNet.com maintains it now.

A "stock" site would have you post music clips for incorporation into other audio-visual products, such as a film or commercial. Shutterstock is already doing this with video clips.
