built much better then the 350d, easier to hold and much more solid, will have to wait until the weekend to get a real feel for it as i'm working :(

but i think the cat is fed-up of being photo'ed as a test all ready :)

Cool. Can't wait to see what you shoot with it.

Range Finder had an article about it this month. Sounded pretty sweet. I really liked booth of my SONY cameras. SONY makes sensors for everybody elses SLRs so it make sense that they finally got in the game themselves. The sensor in their SLR is reported to be the same one as in the D200. I recommended it to my mom as she has a bunch of Minolta lenses that wil be compatible and has been looking for a dSLR.

Congrats, and come on board. I would like to see some nice high scores with this camera. Maybe you will have better luck.

Don't have any ideas for lenses. Not sure if ebay is the place to go. Have you tried some places like B&h or other places that sell used equipment? Maybe if you did a search on Amazon.com, they might have some used lenses for sale.

Nice pickup. The A100 seems to have taken a slight backseat with the barrage of new cameras (and the A100 is fairly new itself), but it still produces excellent images and is a fine camera.

Lens wise, the favorite of Minolta/Sony users seems to be the 28-75mm f/2.8, either in KM or Tamron branding (they are essentially the same lens). The old Minolta 70-210mm f/4.0 is a cult favorite, even if the ebay prices are still rather inflated (the f/3.5-4.5 version isn't built as well but is supposedly as good as the f/4 optically). The 50mm f/1.7 is a no-brainer for the price. Other oldies you may come across which are quite good are the 28-135mm f/4-4.5, and I'm rather fond of my 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5, despite the odd range (it was only $35, built like a tank, quite sharp).

All depends on how much you want to spend, really.

Not sure what (or if) you have a budget, but I have:

Sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX DG DF
Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX APO IF
Konica Minolta AF 50mm f/1.7 (EBay for $90)
Sigma 2X EX DG Teleconveter.

I'd recommend any of them depending on what you need them for.
Haven't had the chance to fully utilize all of them yet. But, the 70-200 has gotten the most use so far, with the 15-30 closing in.

Thanks for the info!
i will be getting the 50mm 1.7 as soon as and then look for a 70 - 300, i was thinking of the tamron as it has 1:2 macro, will this be good enough for pictures of bugs and butterflies?

Hi June, it is a great camera, thank you for your info and pictures it realy helped me decide. We should have a wpl team for the alpha next time round :)

i'm just hoping the English weather picks-up a bit so i can go out!

I know what you mean about the weather. It has been poor around here as well. Not even decent mist covered fields to go with the weather. Well, Farmers Market tomorrow. Hopefully I will have some nice images. Then a flea market on Sunday. That should be interesting. You get all walks of life at those, including people without teeth, people with teeth, shiny people, rumpled people, pierced people, rich and poor, to name a few.

There are plenty of 50mm f/1.4 lenses around as well if you like it even a little faster. :)
