Oh wow, after reading

dpreview link, I want one more than ever. I'm glad it's not going to be as expensive as I expected... and that I've been saving my member points at Yodobashi Camera.

Hmm...that body looks fantastic, I wonder how much it will be down here.

899 US is roughly 1150 Australian dollars - but I daresay the actual price will be well over 1500.

Its great that I will have the option to upgrade without having to switch systems, but I'm thinking of doing that anyway given the difficulty in getting pentax accessories and lenses down here. It is, for example, practically impossible to find a flash to fit a pentax camera in the stores here.

My only other qualm with my pentax is the relatively slow AF. So if that is fixed, and I come into a financial windfall, I daresay I'll be on the K10 bandwagon.

Hi Anders

Yeah i have the same dilema, there are less second hand stuff for pentax and in general is not present in all shops.. how ever changnig my whole setup is not an easy (cheap)option

One thing is for sure i want to feel this new camera in my hands before i make any decision

Cheers

I'm sick of waiting for a professional level camera from Sony to replace the Minolta 7D, and I really want a body with IS built in.
I may finally decide to jump ship and go with this body.
I'm planning on doing a lot of travelling, maybe in desert conditions, so this camera looks ideal!
Edit: incredibly fiddly to chance ISO settings though when in Manual mode... could be a deal-breaker.

That is just an option you can use, not a built-in feature that you can't turn off.

Certainly looks like a fantastic setup.

check this thread for some info on pending Tokina lens releases. Some of these will be mirrored with the Pentax line.

I'm drooling over the possibility of a nice sharp 16-50 f/2.8 with low CA and in-body anti-shake.

Same for the possibility of a Pentax 50-135 f/2.8.

Yum.

Oh, I'm still sticking with Canon, but I've been adding Pentax to the line-up over the Sony cams for recommendations to others wanting to get involved.

WOah! I just noticed on BH that Pentax has a 50mm f/1.4 for 200 bucks!

NICE! I wonder how it performs... Probably swimmingly!

And a 35mm f/2... Probably also a pretty decent lens to carry around your neck with anti-shake.

Just had a chat to my local Camera House - body and kit lens = $1499 AUD (not too bad compared with $999 US) this suggests approx. $1350 for the body only. There are limited options for flash yes but there is a Sigma one which is not too hard to come by.

Check out the Dpreview Pentax SLR forum if you haven't already for recommendations on flashes, hot shoe adapters and an awful lot of speculation on what the K10D will and won't have.

Autofocus should be faster on the new body even with existing lenses - and the K10D supports hypersonic in lens motors for even faster focussing ;-)

I've been hesitating over a DSLR forever, but this sounds like the one that will finally force me to take a chance... I'm just scared of the size and weight of the thing.

Only 790 grams (1.7 pounds) fully loaded and ready to shoot, not that heavy, and not even 6 inches across. Pentax has a bit of a history for producing undersized cameras. The *ist DL I have is only 550 grams (1.2 pounds). all the weight comes from the lens you put on it.

And there are a two or three so-called pancake lenses that Pentax have put out or are about to.

I know it's not THAT heavy, but compared to my Panasonic, it's quite a difference. As you say it's the lenses. I'll just have to see I don't get anything too big.

A woman I know has a Canon 300D, but she only uses it when her husband is available to do the carrying. Somehow I don't think she'll lend him to me:(

Edit to add: Lately I've been lazy and mostly I've only been carrying around my Pentax W10. The picture quality isn't that great despite being 6mp, but I get a lot of pictures I'd miss with a bigger camera. It's great for street photography or shooting from the car.

It will never cut it for stock though, even if I did manage to produce one saleable photo with it so far. Even with my Panasonic and my Nikon 8400 it's a struggle to produce the kind of low noise the stock sites require and I really want the extra control of a DSLR too. But I'm scared I may not be good enough to cope with one.

Hmmmm, I should've waited a few months. Oh well, I'll just have to get one and tell the wife "No dear, this is the same camera I bought in September."

I love my K100. We just got back from our vacation to Alaska. I haven't gotten a chance to edit too many photos but will post a few in the next week.

Rumors are that the K10D may except a Sony battery (possibly the FM-50- Sony F717 battery) if this is true it's good news because I already have 3 of those.

Wa-hoo! I picked up a brochure today about the K10D. On the back it gives the date ot two "Touch and Try" talks, one in Osaka on 15 Oct, then in Tokyo on 21 Oct. The release date of the camera itself just says in the last third of October, so my guess is the 21st or 22nd will be when it's on sale at last.

Lovely-looking camera!

It also says the pancake SMC Pentax-DA 70mm F2.4 Limited lens will be released about the same time.

Does sound nice - and it will be the first of a series of weather sealed lenses to go with the weather sealed body...

Wow I can't wait to buy that one!

Can't wait to see your pic's. I just bought the K100D on Friday. So far, so good.

I dont think its the pancake thats going to be weather sealed, from what Ive read the first two weather sealed lenses will be on the market early next year, a 16-50 f2.8 and a 50-135 f2.8.

Sounds like a winner of a camera. It was between the Rebel XTi and the D80 for me, but if the K10D is half as good as the literature implies...weather sealing is a HUGE selling point for me. Most of my shooting is in the dirt, rain and snow, I cant emphasize how excited about the weather sealing.

On the downside, It looks like I'll be waiting a few more months before upgrading to a dslr. On the other hand, it looks like I have two solidly built cameras to choose from...
