I know this topic is talked about all the time here, but I've applied to Brooks, and now I'm hearing all sorts of bad things about them. How good are they really? And what are some other great photography schools I can try to apply to?
Thanks

You looking for a "trade" school or an "art" school? If the latter, Art Center School of Design in Pasadena is top notch. If the former, it's hard to beat Brooks.

I know these might be on the wrong side but I have been having a little look at these recently (I am in this local area)...

New England School of Photography
Hallmark

Also - I might have different criteria, since I am looking for something short so I can minimise the time it takes - I have a real job and cannot do the full-time student thing (unless the mortgage people would suddenly become a charity :-)

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo has a great commercially oriented photography program. If you like Santa Barbara, you'll love San Luis Obispo.
