If you want to get technical, neither of us is right!

Kegs are used for sterile, filtered, pasteurised and ready to drink beers pre-mixed with nitrogen or carbon dioxide, and generally have relatively little flavour. They are served through taps.

On the other hand, real ales are sold as a live product, subject to secondary fermentation and must be properly kept (and in time it goes off). No filtration, no gas, etc - but lots and lots of flavour. This is delivered in casks - "cask conditioned" beer. It is served through a pump.

Personally, I will go out of my way for a good cask conditioned beer!

Soda is in plastic while beer commonly isn't solely because of economics. Activists had little if anything to do with it. Beer is more perishable than soda. AB and the other major brewers of the world have been spending millions over the last few decades to develop the perfect plastic package as soon as they do you'll see the majority of the brewing industry turn to plastic as fast if not faster than the soda industry.

I was surprised last year at a minor league (AAA) baseball game when the beer I ordered came in a "longneck" plastic bottle. Looked just like the glass one...the beer was cold and tasted just fine. ;^)

Is this (plastic beer bottles) common at the various sporting events now? I don't frequent ballparks hardly ever (this was a company picnic event). It certainly makes sense. The container is less likely to spill than an open top plastic cup, can be kept on ice pre-sale, and won't knock out a spectator or player if an unruly fan decides to toss it.

What kind of person would throw away a full beer?
:)

Best thing is to put a big deposit on the bottles. People are less likely to toss something that's has monetary value. If not, someone will pick it up and claim the deposit.
