Looking for feedback on why this one scored as low as it did. I thought maybe all the comments about 'not pastel enough' were the reason, but then I see the 11th place photo (another excellent and deserving Tuborg shot) and cleary pastels or the lack thereof weren't the main criteria for voting in the challenge.

Let me have it, I can take it. It's not my favorite shot, but I thought it would do a bit better.

Ehh, this was a weird challenge. I knew the moment I saw what people were entering that it was going to be one of those with results that I would find nearly incomprehensible. The voters overall seemed to favor images that were badly overexposed as opposed to images that were actually shot with pastels. TUBORG's image gets a pass because it has a pretty girl doing something interesting. As to yours, for me it wasn't the colors, but the lack of interesting elements.

Becky is grumpy this morning, but honest.

Frankly, when I saw the results, I was surprised that Tuborg's placed as high as it did. I didn't see much pastel there, and I don't see much pastel in your picture. As a picture, yours isn't bad, just not for this challenge. (I didn't vote in this challenge FWIW.)

TUBORG's shot was so fabulous and interesting that it scored well DESPITE not being pastel.

Everyone around here knows or should know by now that challenge descriptions are irrelevant to the challenge. If the challenge topic is mushroom and you submit a well lit, overly saturated, tack sharp pretty picture of a crab, then title it "the crab that ate the mushroom", the crab shot will out score most photos that are on topic and show a mushroom.

This is just my opinion, but it is very unfortunate that the voters are able to do this. :-(

Maybe occasionally, but I don't think your statement is true very often. A number of very very good photos by very very good photographers score in the bottom quartile with dnmc-type comments. In general, voters seem pretty intolerant of DNMC images and less tolerant still of attempts to shoehorn them in with a clever title. JMO.

Personally, I think it's a little busy and that busy-ness (word?) gives it a snapshot kinda feel. I'm also thinking that the foreground is almost lightened a bit too much - seems unnatural given the location of the sun. Could be this monitor at work, but the foreground looks like it could use a little more contrast. All of the above is JMO of course. ;^)

btw, in spite of my comment, I scored both of your photos a 6 (but his was 6 and a half) ;)

Thanks for the feedback folks. Hotel inet was down for the last day and a half so couldn't get on. When I'm back home maybe I'll post the original just for comparison's sake.
