I like the newer edit better. More mood - menace - but I could imagine some people might say - a little underexposed. Personally I like it. It has an imediate emotion reaction.
The second one seems a little sharper on the stacks. The first gives me the impression you added a little blur - in the second the stacks seem sharper.

I like the 3rd as well- maybe you could do a slight gradient on the top third of the image? might work well...
