OK...I know the hassle of trying to put private messages onto the server so we could access them through this site instead of through email...but...

What if for each account (or paying member or whatever)...we added a little thing at the top left of each page, it said "You have no new messages" then when we had a message, it would go green or blue or whatever and say "You have new messages"...

--

All that would take would be one extra little 1 byte file for each paying member that would hold a little value like 0 or 1...if it was 0, it would be no messages (or false) if it was 1 you would have new messages (or true)...

Then when you were alerted that you had new messages, to clear that alert, you just click the message, and it returns your little file to 0 and the message alert goes away.

Likewise, each time someone clicked you to PM you, then clicked send, it would open the little file, and put a 1 there if it was 0, or if it was already 1 either leave it alone, or replace the 1 with a 1 anyway and that'd be it.

or you can be totally anal like me and have your email set to check for new emails (pm's get emailed ya know) to every 1 minute. My current broadband provider doesnt mind - it was when I had dial-up that I think my addiction pi$$ed them off.

The drawback to having the PMs show up on the site is that if you belong to several sites with a PM setup like this then you have to check every site to get all your mail.

I like having it all in one place.

Maybe have a preference so we can choose where we want to receive PMs.

I really like getting the PMs through email, myself, but it would indeed be helpful to have something like what you suggested.

Haha, I do the same thing...works great. It checks all my accounts all at once, every minute that it's running.

Actually one bit... and I like the idea :-)

All your PM's would still go to the same place -- your email box. There would just be a little notification to click that you have in fact read your new private messages in your email box when you work your way to dpchallenge.com

Ahhhhhhh... though I'm as adicted to checking email as I am to DPC. I also receive very few PMs. For me this would an unnecessary extra step. A preference to turn off notification would solve that though.
