not that it matters... more of a curiosity thing, but if two photos have the same score, what determines placement? are the scores rounded, but placement is determined by a raw number?

scalvert's :

Place: 36 out of 679
Avg (all users): 6.506
Avg (commenters): 7.560
Avg (camera): 6.508
Avg (no camera): 6.000
Views since voting: 50
Views during voting: 360
Votes: 259
Comments: 27
Favorites: 0

mine :

Place: 37 out of 679
Avg (all users): 6.506
Avg (commenters): 7.200
Avg (camera): 6.506
Avg (no camera): 0.000
Views since voting: 78
Views during voting: 398
Votes: 265
Comments: 16
Favorites: 2

btw... i love scalvert's photo and would have voted it higher than mine myself...

I think it's random. I'm pretty sure I saw your pic *above* scalvert's on my list.

p.s. how'd you like my comment? ;)

I asked SC that question before when one of mine tied with one of Alfresco's. I was told that the score you see is not the true score (the true score has more digits after the decimal point) and that the database randomly selects where to display the images.

i kinda figured it used the raw number w/ more precision...

not sure what you mean by "the database randomly selects where to display the images" though... ?

Well, if I remember correctly, my image was displayed above Alfresco's but SC said in fact his was higher than mine in the scoring if you looked at the actual score (not the rounded down/up one). Since we both had the same score, when the program (or whatever does it, I am not all that familiar with computer terms) lists all the photos in the challenge and determines a placing (1, 2, 3, etc) it randomly chooses which one of the tied photos goes first. I think SC said if it were a case of getting a ribbon then they would have to look at the actual score and not the shortened version they assign it.

1685 total score / by 259 votes = 6.5057

1724 total score / by 265 votes = 6.5056

If you look at the stats you posted, the difference is scores may have been a single no-camera vote. Without that voter, I had a 6.508 average and yours was 6.506, but one voter without a camera apparently gave me a 6 and didn't vote on yours. It pulled my score down slightly, but apparently it was still higher when calculated to more decimal places.

BTW, I was on the "losing" end of the exact same scenario in the Feet challenge. ;-)

I was joint 2nd place in the Workplace challenge. Originally I had the yellow ribbon but Langdon put in a fix where we both got red and our images rotated positions on the home page :)
