So much of our constant worry and disagreement in regards to commenting could be solved with a tick in our preferences.
Give us a few options (then show our choice with each submission) - things like:
A) I don't want any comments, thanks.
B) Go easy on me, please - only positive feeback for me.
C) Give it to me straight, I can take it and won't complain. |

actually, whenever someone registers s/he should have to take a cleverly worded personality test...
1. Your boss has just asked you to change the wording on your memo before you send it out. Do you...
a) immediately make the change.
b) ask why he wants to make the change.
c) tell him to write the d@mn memo himself.
d) quit the company and sue.

I think if you have a feeling about a photo, you should say it... that is why there is a comment box there in the first place... not all comments are going to be nice, and if a person cant handle critism, then why are they on a website that elicits critiques from other individuals...
My scores arent that great, and some people dont like my photos... thats also their opinion... i can understand that... i dont always agree with the blue ribbon... but that doesnt necessarily matter!!! People try to figure out what a picture should look like so that this place votes it high... I think people should be shooting what they want because they like it... because they find it beautiful in its own right and not worry about what their score is... granted i check the update button often and I do get pangs of disappointment when I see the low score, but that's why i am here!!! I want to learn... i take all comments as comments... if i get one that tells me how i can improve... then great... the point is, I still have the choice to listen to the comment or ignore it... if someone says that it would look better cropped... thats their opinion... i either agree or not... i dont go on from there cropping every image because one person thinks it should be that way...
In one of my current challenges each comment contridicts the one before it... i like this, i dont like that... vice versa...
comments are what they are... comments... I think we need to remember to have fun on this page... we are all here cause we love photography... we can learn from each other as much as we choose to... either through comments or observation!!! It is what we make it!!
Good thread Rooster!!! :-) |

| I thought the critique button was for putting the image in the pile for the critique club to look over. |

| One of the nifty things about comments (and I like 'em all, from "boring" to "needs to be sharpened") is that often folks will see/read things in my pictures that I didn't see at first. Posthumous has a way of doing that very well, by the way. |

Well, it is, but I'm not getting your point. Are you saying that comments in general by voters/viewers shouldn't be that detailed? |
