This may not go over well - but it's worth a shot.
How about a members challenge for those who have entered at least 50, 75 or 100 challenges but do not have a ribbon or "honorary mention" yet. It could be a special ribbon (similar to ducky).
It gives hope to those of us who may be in that boat down the road when we hit 50, 75 + challenges and an Honorary Ribbon II will show up.

personally, i'd rather not have a challenge like this...
my top score was 7th place and i got it while competing against everyone else. take away former ribbon winners and i might have ribboned myself, but it would have been a cheap feeling...
no... special ribbon or not, i'd prefer to earn it...
of course, as always, your milage may vary...
ETA: indeed, i would have gotten the red ribbon in that challenge if former ribbon winners had been excluded...

| Maybe just an icon of some kind when a certain number of challenges have been entered - a nice way to recognize those who've participated for a lengthy period of time. Not a ribbon, not related to competition, just something to recognize participation. |

This is a great idea! Even though I have ribbons I think it would be nice to have an icon under the ribbons in the same area where 4th and 5th place things go to show that you've entered 100 challenges and then get another one when you've entered 200. I've entered 182 challenges with the two that are in the voting right now. |

Much better suggestion - actually what I would have suggested had I thought of it :)
There are so many folks who have entered beyond 75 but never ribboned. Some recognition for participating so much - it would be nice to be recognized.

With stuff like this, my thinking leans more towards the "if you feel it would cheapen things, don't enter" (I guess the "your milage may vary" approach") |

I've entered 71 challenges ... and my best placement happened just over 2 years ago! (11th place in August or 2004)

Well, to make it less "cheap", so to say, the participation ribbon could be weighted so that only two or three challenges count toward any given month. So if you're like me and have 42 challenges but I've only been here since April and tend to enter everything I possibly can, usually two per week. Instead of counting 42, if only 2-3 entries count toward a participation ribbon in anyy given month, then I would only have 8-12 points toward it. It would keep people from submitting like crazy just to get the icon, and also allow those who are good contributors who are a bit pickier about what they enter to keep pace, giving some weight to time spent on site.
Probably too complicated for everyone's tastes, but it's a thought.
