I'm looking for a little constructive criticism on this pic. A few comments on what I've done right and wrong would be greatly appreciated.

I'd have just a " little " more light at the back there.
Or I'd see how it looks in black and white too ?
But for a first attempt it's fine !

I would lighten just a little, maybe something like this.

I agree with SG, she pops out even more like this.

I love her pose and the way she pops out of the background! Maybe try to avoid flashlight, the shadows are a bit harsh.

Thanks very much guys, I'll give it another go and post here again. I've got a few shots of her from today and I'm gradually working my way through them... I used the built in flash on my D50 for this one... but I'm in the market for an SB600 this week. We've (myself and the girl in the photo here) decided to continue taking portraits like this outdoors everywhere we go so I figured rather than carting lighting around I'd simply invest in a more versatile flash.

Ext. flashes are the way to go ;)
I ruined countless shots using my 20D built in flash before getting a 580EX speedlight and havent looked back since !
Looking forward to your next set of photo's !

Here's a couple more from the shoot. I PPed them this morning (a little more heavily than the first image).

the second one is better i think the composition and stuff, but they seems to have technical problems i mean underexposed.
