Fork up the cash. I looked forever for a used set and you honestly wont find them, and even if you do, they go for just as much as new ones. There are some sellers on ebay that offer cheaper prices for new ones rather than paying at B and H or Adorama.

Yeah, I figured. I frequent fredmiranda only for the buy/sell section and I have maybe ever seen one set for sale.
I love this dude
"There is no substitute for experience, however you can get it. Whatever you need to learn, you need to practice. And if you cannot practice on assignment (for fear you will screw up) the only other way to do it is to experiment.
I have been using light for the better part of 20 years. But within the very past month, I have spent an evening, in my room, playing with a flash and trying a new lighting technique on an inanimate object. (The cat knows to run and hide by now.)
That particular evening, I was playing with the idea of a daylight-balanced flash, with a snoot, in a tungsten-ambient environment. I made several hundred really stupid-looking dismal failures. And three or four images that I really liked.
Which is three or four more than I would have, had not played around."

bump for this awesome site, I can't believe more people haven't been interested in this. I almost want to start one of those technique study groups on it.

Looks interesting. While I am still in the hate hate hate flash camp (cause I cannot make it work :-) - looks like an interesting read.
...Besides, How can you argue with a site that has this on the front page - Love it! => "NOTE: Strobist doesn't support Internet Explorer, which has issues with Blogger. Try Firefox or Safari.". |

Nice blog! I hated using the flash, but that was just because I didn't know how to use a flash properly. Now I learn to use it and really I start to like it! This site helps to use the flash creativelly (...is this english....*lol*) A remote for your flash is superb! I have one since a few weeks and yesss! great!

Yeah, that's some pretty good information there. I've been watching this site for a while. I'm also a member of the flickr group. I'm thinking about getting one of these starving student kits. I think I'll skip the pc cable and buy some ebay triggers instead. You can read more about these ebay triggers in the flickr group discussion. |
