It was one of those days at work. Pardon me while I vent...

I had a meeting at 7 am to review a briefing that was to be presented at 10:30 am - which, by the way, was not being presented by anyone in the room at the 7 am review. This briefing had been presented two weeks ago to management requesting a decision. Options A, B, and C were presented with C recommended as A and B were prohibitively expensive and time consuming. Management requested we investigate Option D, so we did. Now granted, the 7 am review was to the new guy, so I can understand that. What I don't understand is why there had to be six of us in the room. Nor why all six of us had to attend the 10:30 briefing as well. I have, at this point, read, presented, reviewed, or sat through this particular briefing over 10 times. By the way, Option D is also prohibitively expensive and time consuming. Poor little option C has several flaws - it's cheap, it makes sense, and it's politically incorrect. We did not get a decision.

In between those two briefings which consumed a total of 2 1/2 hours, I had another hour long briefing to explain why we were assuming maintenance responsibility for an application we didn't build and which is being bestowed upon us without money or manpower.

I didn't get lunch.

Then I attended three and a half hours of back to back meetings.

After that, I attempted to perform several of the tasks which resulted from some of those meetings, most of which involved setting up more meetings. And I signed stuff. Important stuff. Like manually-kept time cards for salaried employees.

Then I had a chiropractor appointment - I schedule them for Friday afternoons knowing full well I'll have a headache by then. I left work with enough time (or so I thought) to pick up a Starbucks on the way, since my personal comfort food is a Starbucks mocha.

The drive-thru line was too long to even get into without blocking traffic so I went inside. There was only one person waiting to order - woo hoo! My joy was shortlived. She says "What is that really yummy drink you guys have here?" At Starbucks. Where pretty much all they serve is beverages. After about five minutes of discussing various yummy beverages with the sweet young lady at the counter, then digging through a nearly bottomless purse to find a $50 bill in an envelope to pay for a $4 drink, it was my turn. I ordered. Yay!

I waited. I waited some more. And yet more. I finally asked the nice young girl if she had an iced decaf tall mocha in work? She said - "Not yet, but I'm sure it'll come out soon" - referring to the nifty label-printing device which tells them what drinks to make. After 20 minutes (I kid you not) I told her she didn't need to make it and left. And the car I would have pulled in behind in the drive-thru? Still two cars back from getting to the window.

BUT, I do have to say I wasn't attacked by a crack tranny ho, and I think my bikes are still in my garage. ( Rae-Ann, you know I love you!)

So I think I'll go start cleaning my garage. It's over 100 degrees out there so I'll work up a nice sweat, get dehydrated, and possibly develop a touch of heat stroke. Then I'll come inside and vote. ;-)

Yep. Pretty much. 'Cept for the cleaning the garage part. Only do that once every couple of years. :)

People clean garages? Hmmmm...

Hey, aren't those mocha things terrible? For a long time I swore I'd never go to into a Starbucks. Now, I'm hooked on white chocolate mochas! I have no willpower at all. I'm so ashamed...

That's why I don't HAVE a garage; it's called "streamlining your life" :-) Here's a bear hug to revive ya...

After 20 minutes

You are a very, very patient person. I've been going to Starbucks every day, usually morning and night, for 8 years now. They see me pull in, they start making my drink and it's usually sitting on the counter before I've even made it to the cash register. So I'm lucky in that regard. Addicts get perks.

However, at 5+ bucks a drink I would start bitching after 5 minutes and by ten minutes I'd be walking out with a free drink and probably a coupon for the next visit. You should go back (or when you go back) and talk to whatever 'manager' is on shift. They hand out those free drink coupons like candy, trust me.

Sounds like a lousy day. I've had a lousy week, but at least I've gotten my americano fixes like clockwork. Life isn't all bad.

Yes, Mick, I'm pretty sure there's something illegal in Starbucks coffee... soon the FDA will outlaw it.

Bear, thanks for the hug! I am planning on streamlining a bit - the reason I have to clean to garage is to haul furniture out there to try to sell in one of those annoying garage sales. Oh, and I'll ask for a hug in person later this month. :-)

Routerguy, what the heck is your name?? Congrats on the ribbon, by the way!! And I AM a regular. That's what really irritates me. They know me by name and by drink, but there were a bunch of newbies at the one I stopped at this afternoon. Only one regular and she's an airhead. Nice, but an airhead.

The other day, I pulled into the drive-thru, and instead of "Would you like to try a pomegranite frappucino?" (which sounds awful), she said "Would you like a iced decaf tall mocha, Deb?" Now that was cool. :-)
