What ever happened to the saying "Don't worry...be happy"? I kind of liked that. :-) |
Keep commenting :-) I might have to see if I can find that song... been a while since I've heard it. hehe

Poop (to put it kindly)!!! I don't want to have to deal with this. Of course, all the photos that I've edited lately I'm sure need to be reworked. Again I'll repeat, ARGH!!!!!!!!! |
Jen, check out the Huey. Very inexpensive and you leave it attached to the USB port and it tracks room brightness and adjusts for you. It was on sale a month ago for only $59--posted that but no replies so I don't know how many people jumped on board. I just checked again, and that pric is gone, but it's still pretty reasonable at $69-$79.
Works pretty well IMHO, and my LCD monitors were way off before I got it! |
My LCD at home has a bit of problem on the dark end. It's difficult to make out the last couple of blocks and I can barely see it if the lights are off. I suspect that it's an issue with the monitor since I tried everything I can to get them separated better with no luck. Does the Huey software do anything for black level? |

Here's a better online screen calibration tool. There are many others, but I tend to use this one more:
. . . . Photo Friday Monitor Calibration Tool
Enjoy!

Thansk Neil! I'll probably be picking one of those up here soon. I just hate wondering my stuff "Really" looks. :-)
And thanks for the link to that Calibration page. That's what I used last time and it seemed to help alot. So now that I've messed it up (yet again) I'll go back and use that to "fix it" until I can get a huey or a spyder. :-) |

I can see every shade on both the calibration links here at work, but I still cannot see the last couple of dark blocks on DPC. Thoughts anyone? |

Me too. There's not much difference between the last two on my monitor, but I can see everything perfectly well on the other sites. And I have the Huey which is compensating for ambient light as it changes.

CRT at work they are both identical on DPC. LCD at home I can see a little difference between the blocks, but only in complete darkness. On the calibration sites on both monitors I can see all shades easily. |

calibration wizard
I thought I was calibrated (used the built-in tool) but discovered after my footwear entry that I was way dark. I used this one and it improved it a lot. I like that it doesn't just give black/white to work with, and that it's within my price range, ie FREE!
Then again, I'm a rank amateur, so those with more experience may be able to tell me if I'm nuts to use this one? :) |

Lol..."stand 10 feet from your monitor.." That's a good one! I only WISH I had enough space to get 10 feet from my monitor in ANY direction and still be in the same room :D |

The blocks on the DPC chart have more shades than those calibration sites.
You can get close manually using brightness and contrast alone to being able to see all the blocks, but not all the way. You'll probably have to use Gamma correction to see all of them. I use Adobe Gamma, but the Microsoft Color Callibration tool works pretty well too. Link in a previous post.

According to my subjective eyes and the calibration site earlier in the thread, my gamma is at exactly 2.2. Is that where it should be? Do either of those tools make a difference if I'm already at 2.2? |

2.2 is where I'm at too... you shouldn't have to move the gamma slider much, it's gonna be a very tiny adjustment.

Maybe I have calibration problems as well. My entry is being hammered for leaving what I thought was just a small amount of detail in the silhouette. I've received three comments that it doesn't meet the challenge because it's not solid black. oh well. |

Forgive me if I'm wrong. But, is it proper to be discussing entries while voting is going on? I see posts regarding to much deatil, not a silhouette, etc. This should be either posted in the comments area for any given entry and voted on accordingly....no?
P.S. No, I didn't enter.
Edited to add: Since the entries have already been submitted and being voted on....calibrating won't help at this point anyway. Well, only for voting purposes.
