and daughter.
'Cause she wanted some portrait type shots. Feedback welcome. I'm especially wondering if they look too dark, particularly on CRT monitors. The girl is Taylor, a 13 year old, and the horse is Rhia.
and one of their dog, Prince:

Man that last shot... I had two shelties, the older one just died about 6 weeks ago. That could be her twin. Such great dogs.
Nice horse shots! |

Modgethanc: thanks for all the comments. I agree with your assessments of some of the awkward crops and the overdone glow on the sunset horse (actually straight from camera).
Routerguy: yeah, she's quite a beautiful dog. She's their fourth Sheltie. |

Great work, very professional.
Were you using the 70-200 or 400, or other? |

Probably mostly shot with the 70-200 (about 70%) and the rest with the Tammy 28-75. |

Just saw your comment Amy. I'm embarrassed to say, I have no idea what breed the horse is?? I'll find out. |

I must be tired, I thought this was going to be a sob type story about putting down a friends horse. ;P Anyway, I think they are wonderful shots. I never saw a dog sit a horse before! Only one was rather dark on my CRT, it kind of looked like you were maybe going for a silhouette?
edit for spelling

Very beautiful pictures!
I'll have to admit though, I wasn't thinking with my photography thinking cap and when I read the thread title my first thought was "ahh what a shame, I wonder if it [the horse] was sick or hurt". Duh...felt silly;)
There are 2 that stood out the most for me, I liked several of the the others though the crop, i.e. missing feet, made me want them to be there. BUt overall great job! nice colors, nice blur/sharpness etc... |

Regarding exposure, I'm on a CRT and they look about right. Maybe a tad darkish, but I like them that way. Really nice shots!

Bear: thanks. I still struggle with the brightness of the LCDs but I think I've got the calibration nailed now. I like'em a little dark too.
lil_mo: Yeah, some of the crops are problematic, part of my struggle in not knowing how to shoot a horse properly. Them are big animals! I may tweak the crops a bit before I offer them prints.
kdsprog: yeah, that one was supposed to be a silhouette (and a challenge entry) but I didn't like it nearly well enough to use in a challenge. |
