Does anyone have any simple tips on how to avoid flare with this type of image? Most of my pictures end up looking like this -

I think the only solution is to use lenshood and try to change the angle of the light. Had the same problem with my c7070 as i dont have a lenshood for this camera. |

For this shot, unfortunately you can't really do much to stop it, because changing your angle will greatly change the substance of the shot. You can always switch to Pentax - the coatings on our lenses reduce flare much more than this. (Although to be honest I think Canon's 'L' lenses do a good job, too.) |

Diffuse the background light rather than making it completely direct like that.

hi! I've taken a picture for shilhouettes, but there's a big fat spot of dust on white (in the camerachip). is it allowed in basic editing to put it away? help...please... |

Thanks, KarenNfld....I already thought that but I wanted to be sure. so I'll have to put it into the challenge as ist is, though it's not 100 % good. But let's see what happens. ;-) |

I'd also step a few inches to the left until the tower blocked all but a tiny sliver of the sun -- enough to create the starburst effect, but not enough to "rattle around inside the lens" and create unwanted artifacts. I have some examples somewhere ...

Interesting. I'm a few hundred miles away now, so can't reshoot that shot, but it's useful to know where to position the sun for next time.
And that I need a lens hood. |

Well, have uploaded my cam phone submission. Now, all you commenters, I dare you to comment on my submission and tell me its a phone cam shot :)
I'm thinking if I get to (or above) my average I should sell my 10k (UK Sterling) worth of gear and just use my phone lol.

Do you have a landscape shot with a solitary figure in the distance? If so you'll probably ribbon. Those always do well. Call it the ladybug effect. :P
