Oh my...I know I'm opening a can of worms and will probably be locked immediately but I'm going to get my opinion out there quick. There seems to be alot of threads that get locked down just as soon as a "healthy" discussion starts. I was replying to "a desperate outcry" and when I went to post it, its been locked. The thread started yesterday, I've just read it now and wanted to contribute to the discussion but can't. Isn't this smothering free speech? Nothing is free anymore.
just my 2 cents

I'd read through the entire thread and the same points were being argued over and over again, becoming more and more combative. I locked the thread to stop it turning into a frag-fest. The SC are taking action so I felt until the solution is put into place, the topic could be rested to avoid more hurt feelings etc.

Sorry but I didn't take it that way but it seems that as soon as someone raises an eyebrow, SC is hot on locking the threads.
Just out of curiousity, the Rant thread doesn't show up on the front page any longer, does it.

We try and keep the peace, and the thread was turning slowly into personal attacks. Rant shows on the front page only if you set it to do so in your preferences.
edit: If lots of people want it unlocked, I can do it, but I don't think it's a great idea.

I agree, especially since the two major parties involved are trying to work on a peace accord :-)

I totally agree. I was reading the thread and thought it was becoming calmer. Maybe its how I read into it and others see red.

This is a private organization not a public governed place of living. You have no right to free speech here. Anything and everything you write here can be edited, deleted, or hidden at the owners' wishes. If they so decide to appoint members in charge of editing, deleting, or otherwise hiding what people say, then it is their right to do so. This is their site, afterall.

I didn't say that...Konador added that to prove that they can edit anything they want.
Anyway...harsh or not, I was just trying to shed some light on the subject.

a little levity was added to dave's post. Nothing of substance was added or deleted. :) There have been no smacking of hands or clicking of locks yet.

No light needed to be turned on here. I know what the site is and what it is about. But thank you for explaining it to the rest.

I think the key to avoid the locking of a thread is to let it die a natural death once it's reached the point where there's nothing constructive left to add. |
