Will a Vivitar 283 work with the new Pentax K100? I know it won't dedicate, but will it function without frying anything?

Older flash units have a much larger voltage across the trigger terminals (typically over 200V), while new ones have about 10V. There is a big chance you can damage the camera if you don't use an adapter to get the voltage voltage. Check your camera manual for the ratings and compare it to the ratings for the flash.
