Yesterday I shot another wedding (my 3rd of the summer) with my Rebel XT and my pop-up flash was giving me some problems. I had my red-eye turned off (was just using the flash for fill) and the flash kept double and triple flashing like I had red-eye turned on, when I tried to auto focus. After it would double or triple flash, I would press the shutter button in to take the picture and it would read out "busy" in the view finder and take about 3-4 seconds before it would take the picture. I double checked in the menu, and the red eye was turned off.

This morning I went into a dark bedroom in my house to try it again, and it's still doing the same thing. Is this normal? I don't use the pop up flash alot (the camera is still fairly new).

Thanks,

Dan

Doesn't the camera use the flash as a focus assist light? That would explain the problem, try look in the manual if you can turn it off.

If in low light, your flash CAN as stated above....help your camera focus.

To test, leave your lens cap on and pop up the flash press the shutter half way down to focus only. If flash strobes a bunch of times, go into your "Custom Functions" in the menus and change option "05"-"AF-assist beam" to "1:Does not emit" then test again with the flash up and lens cap on while pressing the shutter half way down again

Does this help? -Derf
