My last two entries have been perfectly in focus, very sharp and clear, when I look at them on my computer screen. After uploading them for a challenge they both (especially my fauna entry) seem very fuzzy. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Cercy

Ive noticed that, I also have had a problem with crystalisation.

I use the Gimp on Linux, and everything looks fine, but as soon as I log in from work, it looks soft and shows crystalisation defects.

I solve it by using the full 150Kb allowed, but it might be that I need to save using the slow/accurate algorythm rather than the integer default.

Do you mean that submission entry (the small pic as opposed to the fullsize one) looks good on your screen but bad once it's uploaded? I've never noticed this.

If you mean the original looks good but the entry pic looks bad, maybe you are sharpening the original and THEN downsizing it. You should apply the sharpen AFTER you downsize to the final size. Sharpen last basically. Maybe that's the problem?

also pay keen attention to the .jpg compression settings when saving. 10 is great
but costs you in file size, for a 640x480 i find can usually get away with a 6 or 7.

Thanks for the help. I don't know very much about Paint Shop Pro and that is what I am using on my PC. I am better with Photoshop on my MAC but MAC is having a browser problem right now! Actually I'm not good with either program, but I'm learning.

joebar - the crayons seemed much clearer before submitting them. When the fauna challenge is over and you see which photo is mine - you will agree that it is fuzzy!

Thanks everyone for the tips!
