I just pm'd a user because I wanted to use one of her pictures as a background on a computer. As I looked at her profile I noticed her age. She is a senior and I thought wow this is really cool. And it made me wonder how many seniors are members. I love the fact that they are using technology and seem to not fear it. We seem to take time to praise the under 18 crowd, as we should, but we also need to notice our elders give them their props too.

I have an email system in place that notifies customers when services are due on their vehicles and also does a follow-up thank you after the service with a customer satisfaction survey attached.
I did a database check a few months back, and out of 220 customers using my system, 89 are seniors/retired, really seem pretty up on the technology and even make their appointments online.

Grandpa & Grandmas now have an easier way to talk to grandchildren, get pictures etc. and many senior centers strongly encourage PC use as a hobby and learning tool. (I've asked them). I was also surprised how many seniors have been using a PC for 20+ years.

Heck my Mom has been using a PC longer than I have, and I'm almost 50.

You aren't senior until you're back in diapers AND having to drink your meals.

My Grandma, in her upper 70s, isn't a photographer or a member, but we set her up with a computer a couple years ago and now she drives the grandkids crazy on AIM. When she broke her hand last year, her biggest complaint was that it kept her from typing online. Haha!

Don't worry Judi, I don't think you look a day over 38. ;-)

Seriously though, I would've never guessed your age had I not just looked at it in your profile. I seriously thought you were about 28.

Seniors. Oh yes, I am one. And I take every discount I can take. Every once in a while "they" card me, and boy do I chuckle over that!

But think about it. Personal computers have been around since the beginning of the '80s.

My first computer was an Apple II+, upgraded to 64K (from 32K - yippee) I could, and did, use a spreadsheet called Visicalc, a primative word processing program and a sort of paint program for which I bought a light pen and made changes pixel by pixel.

I brought my office into the computer age (my boss only wanted them for controlling inventory & billing) and I've kept up by working my way through any number of word processing and other programs. Anybody remember Wordstar?

Always with the caveat that I'm a User, not a Programmer. Back in the early '80s they promised computers would become "transparent to the user" ah, "any day now" in the immortal words of Jerry Pournelle.

So, you might be surprised. Some of us old folk really do know how to use a computer.

Our fingers may atrophy (sorry about that arthritis, Bear Music) but our brains don't. Right, Bear Music?

I'm not so sure about that... It seems to me that I am not as sharp on the ol' short-term memory as I used to be...

I'm a youngun, so I gotta love the younger crowd. But the oldies are cool too! Sherpet was extremely kind to me when I first started on this site. And Bear_Music has always been someone who gives suggestions and answers questions in forums for me and many, many others. =D
