I am part of a local asthma coalition called, strangely enough, "Southwest Washington Asthma Coalition". We are relatively new and are starting on our first endeavor in a month encouraging those with asthma to get their yearly flu shot (that goes for all you out there in cyberville!). The campaign is going to involve posters and newpaper ads designed by your's truly. However, and this is where you come in, I do not have time to come up with a decent logo.

Sooooo, I need a logo for the coalition. Since we are made up of fuddy duddy medical types, I'm guessing conservative will go over better. It will likely go in the corners of the posters, etc. so something legible too.

Anyway, I've got a week. If your logo is picked, I'll pick up a year membership for you and you'll have the heartfelt thanks from asthma sufferers worldwide...ok, in SW Washington. I'm not going to have the final say on logos though, so I guess it's possible nobody will get picked, but I bet you guys can do a great job.

Thanks for the help!

Is that "Soutwest" or "Southwest"?

Great idea! But I think you need the word "Washington" in there somewhere. ;)

It's the world's longest title. I know....

Hey Ahchoo...

I'll give it a "shot"...
No worries about the free membership... it's for a good cause right?

I'll do it for free.. :)

What's the deadline like?

Cheers

Hey Waz, I cant speak for the Doc, but I Love this!! Stylized enough to be interesting and conservative enough to be inoffensive. Definately meets the challenge! I would only suggest a colour change since black is a little morbid for a health logo imho

HI Rae! Missed you glad you are ok. I have been meaning to drop by the tranny thread LOL. Good point I was just thinking that 1 color printing would be cheaper and duplicating more consistent. But for you ...

:-)

Here is my first draft for you Doc.

Simple and SW Washington iconic. I have provided a color and BW version as you will want whatever you choose to work in both versions. This will allow you the greatest freedom. This is in Illustrator so it is completely scalable ΓΆ€“ and modifiable.

I think a "logo" needs to be simple, and effectively portrays what it stands for. I have no idea for Doc, but a quick search on Google for Asthma logo turns up lots of logos used by other groups. The one I particularly liked is shown below. The knot seems to portray the difficulty in breathing (lungs?) and the words "asthma" shown clearly there is really direct and helpful. And the logo does not have to show the region where it operates, if possible.

Ok, I had a rather fast attempt at producing something. The logo itself is fairly non-descript, but perhaps could represent flow/wind/breath yadda yadda blah :)

Colours can be modified with simple hue alteration. Vector based for ease of print, but currently shown with Layer Effects.

Regards,
Simon

Just a rough attempt, can be refined on demand. Some explanations:
As you may notice, this is a silhouette of lungs. The color red represents the urgence to help/to take action. The "growing" typeface represents a deep breath. The letters SW are placed int the "Southwest" of the logo, while the letters AC are placed where (most people) have their heart (as the coalition is caritative).

You guys are just great! Keep them coming in! I'll share the poster with y'all when I get it done. Got some "models" (i.e. my wife and son) coming in to the office today to get shot (puffing on an inhaler in Caden's case and getting a shot in Jenn's).

I was taught that, unless you have a lot of money, you should make sure that a logo will reproduce well in B&W/Grayscale (if it includes color at all), since color printing is often disproportionately expensive.

A B&W/Gray logo can be printed in any single color as well as black, while a multicolor logo pretty much restricts how you can print it ... of course, it doesn't matter if you are only going to use it on the web, but if you plan to put it on paper it's a significant financial consideration ...

Cool idea with the text gradient look - did you consider going from top to bottom (fade to full) instead?

Wow, you guys are good! They are wonderful designs!

I think this would look good with a text wrap like Wazz did on his design.

One of my nurses said the exact same thing. Dude, also thanks for teaching me a new word...very caritative of you.

Perhaps a silly question, but the silhouette image...there isn't any copyright on it or anything that would prevent usage is there?
