....has anyone heard anything of this beast?

My camera store guy said that the Canon sales people were hinting around about a 1DS Mark 2 N, full frame, 22 mp monster comming soon.

I'd heard rumours of a 'medium format' body, perhaps that used the regular canon lenses - this might be a 22mp body, huh?

I hope they do something to make the 5D become less than $2000, whatever that might be.

Bringing it down to 30D pricing would be nice.

I was speaking to a Canon rep a month or two ago at my work (AppleCentre in Sydney) and he said that the 5D would be replaced "soon enough". (i think the suggestion was late this year, or Jan2007.)

It would have more MP and the environmental seals that the pro range have and the 30D strangely received.

Thats insane! I've used/tried out a digital rebel and some other 8mp cameras and have also seen a few higher than that but this seems like it would be a giant step forward. Not to mention very expensive and rare-overkill most likely also

I, too, have read people hinting about this on other boards for some time. Photokina seems to be the place to unveil their 1Ds series (hasn't it been for the last 2). I've read that the price will be north of $10k USD but who's to say. It would make sense because at that point they will start to infringe (one would expect) more and more on the MF's arena (as though the 1Ds MII didn't already put pressure there). Has anyone heard a frame-rate, though? At 22mp it doesn't seem like 3fps would be a necessary function, does it? Seems like the shooter would be looking to get more of the image right from the get-go and not necessarily look to burn off multiple actuations. If the comments and innuendo I've read turn out to be correct I doubt that this will have much effect on pricing for consumer or prosumer Canon bodies and it probably will have little effect even on the 1Ds MII pricing other than you'd have to buy one of those bodies used.

I don't think the 5D is in-line to get upgraded next. It has only been out 12-months so it should be replaced (if they follow their pattern) either next spring or Sept '07 at that Photokina. It would be a pleasant surprise to see that body replaced as that would bring down those prices. More likely, Canon might have a very slight modification a la the 1D MII N or 20Da which doesn't affect the price of the original body by much if any at all but provides some nice features that might not be available through a simple software upgrade.

EDIT: missed the 20D modification designation; changed from N to a

Megapixles or not, I can´t imagine the price being over 10.000$, I mean who in their right mind would pay that much for a full frame camera when the 5D is selling for 3000$ or less?

If there is indeed a new 1Ds on the way, if any change in the pricing I rather predict a price drop from the 1Ds mkII and not a rise, I predict it will drop about a 1000$ or so and be around 7000$, I mean, would you replace your 1Ds mkII with the newer model if it only has 6 more megapixles and would cost DOUBLE?
