Just got home, good tube ride and decent train ride until I got to Beeston, the train stop before Nottingham. (Nottingham is the station I need)

We had the following announcement

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have some bad news for you ... (yes he really did say that) ... there is a bomb scare at Nottingham station some one has left a suspect package on the station and the bomb squad are there at the moment trying to do a controlled explosion, no trains are allowed into there, this service will be teminating in Beeston, at this time we cannot provide onward travel, you will have to make your own way home, but keep any receipts for your tavel and get a claim form and claim it back. Sorry but that is all we can do for you."

So I called a taxi, and asked him to take me to Nottingham station so I could get my car, we get there and we are not allowed it, the police are out in full force and turned us back they have also blocked half of Nottingham City centre off, the taxi ended up bringing me all the way home at a cost of £15 cus he couldn't get through the centre of Nottingham so had to take the long way round, I live on the opposite side to where we were.

I am home safely but without a car, so its the bus 2moro to try and get my car if it has been reopened.

What fun and games.

BTW thanks for a great day out I will sort my pics out over the next few days and get them posted.

Edit - the lengthy report on BBC about this incident BBC News

Got my car back this morning all is ok, just to make a claim now for about 20 quid from the train company.

Woke up this morning and thought "Wow! Great day yesterday!"

Aside from the aching feet yesterday was a blast, even though I seemed to be the last one to get anywhere. Thanks to June and Matt for organising such a great day and to everyone I met on the day - really appreciated your company.

Curious observation: this was a real Canon-fest with 20D and 350D being in the fore. The cool thing about this was the amount of lens swapping that was going on between folk - way cool.

Lovely day yesterday. Thanks everyone from both Pauline and me. Having to steal connection to post this so it may be short!
Hope all ok with ben, chiqui's feet, puzzled's stay in London etc.
Artan - I got those pics as well but where's the police van?
Will post pics when we eventually arrive home.
Look forward to meeting up in Yorkshire.
John

I am done processing and uploading my pictures. I didn't shoot much, I guess I was too busy trying to follow a route that wasn't cooperating! LOL Here they are London GTG 8

I should have some up this evening.

Thanks to all for a really fun day. The weather (apart from half an hour in the morning) was gloriously compliant, despite the BBC's doom-mongering!

Great images June. The tables (6) are very good (I don't remember the lights being on...!). I love the colour of the brick in Devereax Court(5). The columns shot (7) is crying out for a bride in the focal point! The light in the Cittie of Yorke (11) is super - I noticed that while we were in there: there is a Vermeer-esque window opposite the bar. The blues in (14) to (16) look slightly blown on my monitor, but I like each composition. I will have to try more dynamic angles myself!

Excellent collection.

Ben - these look great. I particularly like the post processing on the spiral staircase, the splashes of the fountain (wish I had thought of that composition) and the lensbaby capture of p2jvr (that looked great when we saw it on the back of your camera!).

You might need a bit of fiddling on the levels of the splash shot, columns and the two pics of Tom - the black point looks marginally too high (not quite black enough on my admittedly uncalibrated work monitor!).

Hi Ian. I have left you a couple of comments. Great work!

June I love your pics!

Especially like the motion-blurred bikers infront of the graffiti, the huge bubbles and the bike infront of the railings and windows.

Ben, your spiral stairs one is very cool!

Well, I just got home. It's a two hour flight from London to Copenhagen (my destination), but it took nearly 12 hours thanks to me missing my plane due to an incredibly long wait to get through security. I ended up having to wait in the line TWICE because I lost my place the first time through! My advice: never, never, never hop out of line for "just a sec" to get a Starbucks :-) I also ended up having to check my laptop and about 3 lenses, which was scary, but everything seems to be okay after a cursory check.

Thanks to everyone who came to this GTG. It was really a great time! Thank you, June, for organizing. You did a good job keeping the rain at bay, too. It was excellent to be outside so much, but I agree with you on the tired feet subject. My feet still hurt.

I'll post my pictures tomorrow if I don't get some up tonight.

Everyone - Legalbeagle & family, Tom, Artan, Martin, Manic, Chiqui, Obsidian, BenHur - hope you come to a Copenhagen GTG. You're all welcome to camp out here (literally, if it's summertime).

This was my first ever official GTG. I'm hooked now!

edited to spell legal as in beagle correctly ;-)

Hi all! coming in late to the party here.

I'm going to be in London for business the week of Aug 28. I also just found out Monday the 28th is a bank holiday, so the office I'll be visiting is closed... which means, assuming I can get all my gear on the plane without incident, I'd love to get together with anyone who would be free on that Monday. Depending on the work schedule, other days too, but Monday for sure.

Any takers? If not, can you point me in the direction of interesting things to photograph... :)

Thanks in advance.

My suggestions for being a tourist in London with an interest in photography:
- The South Bank (where the London Eye is) is a GREAT place to walk and photograph
- Take one of the tourist busses - really. I've always been the type to avoid tourist busses, but on Sunday I was all alone, so decided to see how it is to go on a tourist bus. It was well worth the money. A boat trip with a hysterically funny guide, tons of photo ops, and guided walks were all included. You buy a ticket that's good for 24 hours. It cost £18.
- Just about any direction you point yourself in London, you will find interesting photo opportunities. I promise.

Have a good trip!
