The last 2 times I've opened photoshop I've got the message:

"You currently have A.P. primary Scratch and Windows' primary paging file on the same volume, which can result in reduced performance. It is recommende that you set Adobe Ph.'s primary Scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferable on a different drive."

A couple facts: Right now I've got 512 megs memory. Another 1 gig is in the mail. I've got 125 gigs of free space on my C drive. I don't have another drive (internal or external).

Can anybody help or suggest anything.

Thanks,
Josh

Don't worry about it, if you only have one rive, you only have one drive. Nothing you can do. That's just a recommendation from Adobe.

I have my hard drive partitioned to have Window's Paging file separated onto it's own partition, but mostly I do that for fragmentation reasons, not performance boost.

How would I do this? or at least look into it?

I did it when I installed Windows. There are a few programs that can do it without having to reinstall Windows.

I think one of those programs is called Partition Magic.

Edit to add: you will want the partition to be 4 times in size as the amount of memory you have installed on your computer. So, say you have 1 gig of RAM, you'd will want a 4 Gig partition for the Paging File.
