Is there a difference between still camera and video camera lens sizes? I ordered a 37mm camera filter (when it arrived, it said video camera) and it is significantly smaller than the 37mm lens adapter for my LS443. I wondered if I messed up or if the seller is yanking my chain.

37mm is 37mm...there are 30mm ones so that's what you probably received. I have a number of 37mm filters designed for video cameras for my DSC-S50. There's no difference as far as standard threads go between still and video cameras.
