		| | Thank you... THANK YOU everyone. I feel much better after hearing all the kind words and after sleeping on it. I really should learn not to engage in potentially emotional things late at night. :-)
I now have my head back where it should be as far as the importance of scores/placements are concerned. I may still take a break from challenges for a little bit though. I think it would be neat to put some stuff in my portfolio that I have shot *for* my portfolio (most of the stuff there is from before I became a member).

But I might enter challenges too, I dunno. I think probably... no more photo shoots for a while. It is really hard for me physically to do even a small photo shoot so that was a big thing, I think, in making me so concerned about this score (plus this was my first shoot with a model).

So anyway. Thanks again and know that I feel infinitely less discouraged now. :-)

		| | I have engaged in potentially emotional things late at night and that's when my weaknesses are the weakest. I have made it through some of the "toughest challenges" in my life. Rest and daylight gives me strength.
I have seen that one lousy picture pulled my over all avg. down. It takes time in shooting and post processing. My lowest, I submitted one 11:55 and another 11:59 on the deadline date.

In the past I have read books on photography, in areas such as composition and lighting. I will continue to read/learn more. I haven't even read all the dpc tutorials.

Here and elsewhere, I've found that you have to appeal to the general audiance's tastes and be tops in the technical aspect. Now that's mostly true for Authors, Dancers, Performers, Script-Writers, Artists, and many others. In general people like to get good feelings from pictures. Ya can't listen to blues music all the time.

I liked your ghost in the living room, It reminded me of the Blair Witch Project movie which I've heard about.

		| | I would like to say a big THANK YOU! to everyone. I just posted in another thread about how I am able right now to be happy with myself as a photographer. My scores haven't improved but I have been able to get over the rough spot of the Superstitions challenge and into a better outlook. Thank you again for your time and your helpful words. |

		| | One thing you have to keep in mind, is that anyone who signs in, can vote. Which means that they may, or may not, be trained photographers or indeed may be completely bereft of talent.
The most cutting remarks I've seen in the voting came from people who have never entered.

The choice always is, do I shoot for myself, or for a score? Though I seldom score well, and lately haven't had the time, I seem to alternate between going for a score and doing what I want. I do not think that it is all that important to shoot for score, but at the same time I think learning to please the tastes of others, broadens me too.

		| | ambaker, I think that everything you said is basically right on target with how I like to look at things. A good reminder. |

Well I can't promise I'll never *feel* horribly frustratedly like giving up ever again, but this experience taught me a lot about how to prevent it and how to deal with it. So despite what my future feelings may be I believe the answer is YES. :-D

		| | i've noticed some of your work is 'arty' -- ie. the 11% shot is grainy and quite experimental. those kind of shots don't tend to do well here, unfortunately, because they don't appeal to the 'masses'. however, it doesn't mean they're not good. keep going and hold your head high. PS for the record, i gave it a 6.

I'll answer: No. Score schmore art lart dart schmart. This is fun and learning. Take photo - learn. Enter. Learn. See -- see the photo. Be - be the photo. Follow -- follow your path.

Heed my words, stay the course; you are doing well.

Just don't stoop to posting with cheese.

		| | Reading this thread made me feel a bit better too.. I am going through the same thing and I think I even have my sob story up on my profile or somewhere.
I'm glad you're feeling better. I just started on a challenge after feeling too depressed to shoot and even though I'm being trashed (yet again) I'm having fun. Hope you do well in the future.

		| | in this proud land we grew up strong we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose

 don't give up
 'cos you have friends
 don't give up
 you're not beaten yet
 don't give up
I know you can make it good

though I saw it all around
never thought that I could be affected
thought that we'd be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn

drove the night toward my home
the place that I was born, on the lakeside
as daylight broke, I saw the earth
the trees had burned down to the ground

 don't give up
 you still have us
 don't give up
we don't need much of anything
 don't give up
 'cause somewhere there's a place
 where we belong

 rest your head
 you worry too much
 it's going to be alright
 when times get rough
you can fall back on us
 don't give up
 please don't give up

'got to walk out of here
 I can't take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
 keep my eyes down below
 whatever may come
 and whatever may go
 that river's flowing
 that river's flowing

 moved on to another town
 tried hard to settle down
for every job, so many men
 so many men no-one needs

 don't give up
 'cause you have friends
 don't give up
 you're not the only one
 don't give up
 no reason to be ashamed
 don't give up
 you still have us
 don't give up now
we're proud of who you are
 don't give up
you know it's never been easy
 don't give up
 'cause I believe there's a place
there's a place where we belong

And just what is wrong with posing with cheese, excepts that it can be painful to remove from facial hair?

Not necessarily, but it could be an effective removal process to keep in mind for her post-menopausal years.
