I am looking for interesting places to photograph, out of the ordinary stuff, things or places that you usually overlook while vacationing, etc. in the Cherry Grove or whole Myrtle Beach South Carolina area.. I would love to see some native animals, historical stuff, etc, I plan to do some web surfing to find some places to visit. I'm no stranger to the area, I've been to Myrtle Beach dozens of times but now that I am an adult my interests lie further than the pool and the ocean... last year we went to the North Carolina coast and I found some interesting places with help from the group, I'd love that again this year!
One place I am sure to visit is the Pavilion. They are closing for good on September 30th and are having a special last night celebration, I already have advance tickets. Its such a shame... that amusement park has been a staple of Myrtle Beach. I just can not imagine going to the beach without riding a ride at the pavilion. Times do change...
Anyway, We are leaving around Sept. 24th, so any advice would be appreciated. |

Don't know if you've found the page yet, but here's a good place to start:
Discover Myrtle Beach Attractions
Scroll down and there's contact info for lots of places in and around Myrtle Beach and Pawley's Island.
Sara
ETA: Also, Myrtle Beach State Park has more than just beach:
Interpretive Nature Trail where you can see "one of the last stands of maritime forest on the northern coast of South Carolina."
And this looks cool too:
Brookgreen Gardens.

very cool! Too bad we won't be going at the same time :(
I definitley plan to visit the cherry grove pier, its a 2 story deal, holds the worlds record for largest catch of a tiger shark in 1964, almost a ton in weight.. I might take the kids fishing, never done any saltwater fishing...
Have a great trip!

I'll be at Sunset Beach next week on vacation. (August 19th - 26th- Looks like I'll miss you). From what I understand, it's about a half hour drive from Myrtle. At Sunset, on the west end of the beach, is something called "Bird Island". I am really excited to see if I can get some good shots of some little birdies! :) I'll let you know if (in my opinion), you should take a trip out there. I've never been, but I hear it's beautiful...and not very busy. ;) I can't wait! |
