Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS

I did try to clean but my eclipe juice is gone (I don't think the cap was on tight). I figured it's time for a service call anyway sooooooo .... I'll send it in. But only if I can get it back before the end of next week (ie - two weeks gone). If not I'll order some juice and try a clean.

I have a moderate amount of worry in that I'll scratch it if the doody-gunk has something in it, but c'est la vie - no?

I saw your thread, maybe it subconsciously made me goop the sensor?!? Or the Canonites have done some sort of evil dance and cursed the D70. And here I was, toying with the idea of joining there side.

Ummm... I'm over 40, but a Buick?? I dunno...

I seem to recall from my youth when the 'rents (fancy word those young'uns use for parents) drove a "deuce and a quarter". When I learned how to drive (yipee!) I managed to burn a quarter of a tank in that gas guzzlin' machine just doing donuts in the mall parking lot one snowy evening.

I didn't even know they still made Buicks, to tell you the truth.

You may not believe this but not only did you and I scratch our d70 sensors this weekend....I drive a 98 Buick Regal!

Buicks, D70, scratches ... It is fate, my friend. Fate. I'm spooked out.

I knocked down some wasp nests next to the hot tub yesterday, and you took photos of wasps the other day.

All this reminds me not of Buicks or wasps, but that there is a large piece o' dust on my brand new camera's sensor. I'm just a wee bit hesitant to go try to clean it off, too...

Maybe I'll just not shoot in daylight for awhile, think?

Don't fear cleaning your sensor, just learn from my stupidity - don't touch any physical contact cleaning device to anything prior to using it on the sensor.

Use copperhill method but follow instructions perfectly. I cleaned 8 times in the last year. I got careless on the one I did last week and zonk...a scratch. However, the scratch only shows up at f22 or above and in solid colors.

I've got the Copperhill stuff - have successfully cleaned the Rebel a couple of times. I'll get brave and do the 30D one of these days...

I am VERY careful, to the point of turning off the A/C prior to starting, just to prevent it kicking on while I have the camera open.

IMO (not that I followed this rule when I scratched my d70) the thing to do is to:

Don't let the swab touch ANYTHING prior to cleaning and swab exactly how the instructions say....DO NOT USE THE SAME SWAB TWICE....even if you think it is clean. I think I picked up some metal particle and redeposited it on the sensor and dragged it across!!!!

I called Marquette Camera Repair - $65 clams to clean the sensor. I then asked about maintenance/once-over and he said they're built to not need one ...

Soooooo ... I'm thinking I'll restock the copperhill juice and do a swab or two on my own - that's all they're going to do anyway.
