Here is a link to some photos of my new home. Many "friends" and "family" gave my wife and I all kinds of negative comments about building post-Katrina. We heard..."it will be too expensive", "the builder will not find workers", "it can't possibly be built in less than one year", "you can't get insurance"...etc..etc...

....well our general contractor said different. He said he could do it and he is 2 months ahead of projections. This home was started in April 2006 and was to be complete in February 2007. We will likely be in before Christmas 2006 !

Here are some shots. If my gallery worked out right, they should be in "date" order. Thanks for looking and commenting.

It looks like it'll be a nice place when it's finished.

Building a house is tons of fun, ain't it? I read somewhere that
home building often causes divorces. I know it was a major pile of stress for me and my wife when we built our home.

Good luck!

I like to hear this version of the home building, addition building, or pool building story. My company comes in at the end of these jobs to design and install the landscape, pond, and/or waterfall.

Too often, we get the result of frustration and mistrust brought on by previous contractors with their poor quality of work or months of delays. Your friends and family were probably just trying to relay to you what they have witnessed and experienced and not trying to quell your hopes.

Anyway, it looks like you have a beautiful home in the works. Katrina payed us a visit too (everybody forgets her first and almost insigificant contact). But I don't think that you are close enough for us to install the landscaping for you. Your profile doesn't say where you are located.

Since my wife has "taste" I let her pick out just about everything. I picked out the sound system! The only problem we had was when the "slab" was poured. My wife went over for a look and said the builder had faced the house the "wrong" way! I went over the plans and showed her that this was not the case! WOW.....

...there was also a "hump" in the wall in one of the bedrooms where the drywallers covered a pipe w/o pushing it between the studs. We told the builder and he fixed it.

All else is going good!

Congrats Ken. But wow, it seems wierd seeing a wood frame house. Most of the houses here in Australia are made of brick!

Well although the frame is wood, brick will be placed all around the home. I think it is still considered "wood frame" though. Very few homes here are made of brick, even after the hurricane. I know of only one that is being build made from brick!
